Job summary

Sunsational Swim School LLC is seeking experienced independent swim instructors for Spring/Summer 2026 to join our nationwide network. You’ll travel to local students’ homes or community pools to teach swimming, select your own clients, and set your own schedule for flexible part-time or full-time work.

In 2009, Sarah Sebe was on a path to earn her Master’s degree in Education - until a Craigslist ad for swim lessons plunged her into the deep end of entrepreneurship. Sarah founded Sunsational Swim School as the sole instructor traveling from house to house in Los Angeles. She quickly realized a common frustration among parents: their kids lacked progress in group swim lessons. While families spent months in crowded classes with little progress, her one-on-one approach helped kids learn to swim in just weeks.

We have answers. What is the pay for Sunsational swim instructors?

A swimming instructor is also known as a swimming teacher. A swim instructor teaches babies, kids and adults proper water safety and swimming techniques to become proficient swimmers. Swim teachers are responsible for creating a safe and fun environment for their students to learn and grow. Swim instructors can be expected to teach beginner students basic swim techniques and work with advanced swimmers training for competition. They guide their students towards a love and passion for swimming and help their swimming students overcome any apprehension along the way. Swim instructors build trust, foster confidence, and support their students to become the best swimmer they can be.

As a Sunsational swim instructor, you’ll travel to clients homes and community pools to teach swimming lessons in your neighborhood. You get to choose the clients you work with and the days and times you to teach lessons on a schedule best for you. You’ll be expected to show up to your client's home fully prepared and exactly on time with the schedule you agreed to and set. Excellent communication skills and a high sense of responsibility are required.

Applicants must have previous professional experience teaching swimming or water safety. Qualifying experience may include teaching swim lessons at the YMCA or another established aquatic facility, working as a lifeguard with instructional responsibilities, coaching a swim team, or holding a similar aquatics position.

Experience participating on a swim team, water polo team, or other competitive swimming program is valuable, but it does not qualify as professional teaching experience on its own.

Successful applicants typically combine strong swimming skills with experience teaching, coaching, or supervising students in the water. On average, Sunsational swim instructors have more than two years of personal swim training in addition to their professional aquatics experience.

Sunsational Swim School offers competitive compensation for swim instructors. Actual rates vary by market demand, lesson type, and instructor experience, and instructors may also be eligible for cash bonuses and other incentives.

To become a Sunsational Swim School instructor, applicants must have previous professional teaching or aquatics experience, current CPR certification, the ability to pass a criminal background check, and one to two professional references.

Relevant experience may include teaching swim lessons, coaching a swim team, lifeguarding with instructional responsibilities, or working in a similar aquatics role. If your CPR certification is not current, Sunsational can help you complete the required certification before you begin teaching lessons.

No. Sunsational Swim School provides liability insurance coverage of up to $1 million for instructors while they are teaching approved Sunsational swim lessons.

To qualify for a swimming instructor job, you should be confident teaching water safety skills and the four primary swimming strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Successful swim instructors also need strong communication, patience, reliability, and the ability to adapt lessons for children and adults with different skill levels. Because Sunsational instructors teach private lessons at clients’ pools, you should be comfortable working independently, managing lesson time, and providing clear feedback to swimmers and their families.
