Job summary

Premier Academy Walnut is seeking a dedicated part-time English tutor to support student achievement across literature analysis, writing, grammar, and reading comprehension. You will provide 1:1 instruction (up to 1:3) and develop customized lesson plans aligned with AP English and SAT prep when needed.

You will track progress, assign homework, and collaborate with the Campus Director to tailor tutoring schedules and maximize student growth throughout the school year or summer session.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
• At least 2+ years of teaching or tutoring experience.
• Ability to develop engaging lesson plans.
• Flexible availability to accommodate student schedules.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 instruction (up to 1:3 students).
• Develop and implement customized lesson plans tailored to individual needs.
• Assign and review homework and quizzes as appropriate.
• Keep detailed records of tutoring sessions using Premier-provided forms.
• Motivate students by setting clear expectations, conducting progress checks, and offering regular feedback.
• Submit periodic progress reports for each student.
• Collaborate with the Campus Director to address and improve students' academic progress.

Expectations

• Literature analysis, essay writing, grammar and syntax, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and research skills.
• AP English courses (AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition)
• SAT Reading and Writing sections: Grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, and rhetorical skills as tested in the Writing section.
• U.S. History, World History, government and civics, historical analysis, essay writing, document-based questions (DBQs), and critical thinking
• AP History courses (AP U.S. History, AP World History, AP European History, AP U.S. Government and Politics)

What We’re Looking For in a Teacher:

• Demonstrates strong work ethic: well-organized, well-prepared, and punctual.
• Ability to develop and implement engaging lesson plans.
• Adaptability in teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of learners.
• Ability to build meaningful relationships and mentor students effectively.
• Long-term commitment (for the full school year or summer session).
• Flexible availability to accommodate students’ schedules, with coordination around your availability.
• At least 2+ years of teaching or tutoring experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Bonus Qualifications:
  • CBEST certification or a primary/secondary teaching credential.
  • Experience with the Walnut Valley Unified School District (WVUSD).
