Job summary

Wilson Elser in California seeks an Attorney with a strong litigation background to join a national IP and Technology team focused on transactional law, privacy, AI governance, data governance, internet law and related areas. The opportunity is available in Los Angeles or Orange County offices.

The role involves managing a litigation caseload, advising on data privacy compliance, drafting agreements, and collaborating with partners on complex projects.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Must be admitted to practice in the State of California.
• 5–15 years of IP litigation experience.
• Federal/State court litigation experience with motions.
• Experience with depositions.
• Experience with privacy, AI and data governance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day management a litigation caseload and counsel clients in IP, data privacy technology and AI governance/compliance.
• Work closely with other attorneys and Partners on legal projects.
• Prosecute and defend lawsuits involving copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, data privacy, and related rights.
• Advise clients on data privacy compliance, AI governance, and data governance matters, including privacy notices and policies.
• Advise on transactional matters: asset purchases, collaboration, software licenses, and related agreements.
• Communicate with clients and provide status reports.

The Position

Wilson Elser's Intellectual Property and Technology Team seeks an Attorney with a strong litigation background to join a fast‑paced and dynamic national team focused on Intellectual Property and Technology transactional law and litigation; privacy, AI and data governance; internet law; advertising law and other related industry‑specific areas to take the next step in their career by becoming part of a national law firm with a wide range of resources and opportunities. The opportunity is available at Wilson Elser’s Los Angeles or Orange County, CA offices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Day-to-day management a litigation caseload and counsel clients in the areas of IP, data privacy technology and AI governance/compliance.
• Work closely with other attorneys and Partners on legal projects.
• Act as part of a team that prosecutes and defends lawsuits involving copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and trade libel, data privacy (including online tracking technologies), rights of privacy/rights of publicity;
• Advise clients on data privacy compliance, AI governance, and data governance matters, including preparation and review or privacy notices, internal privacy and security policies, procedures and controls, third party risk management, risk assessments, and internal training for clients on these matters
• Advise clients on a wide range of transactional matters including purchase and sale agreements for creative assets, collaboration agreements, software development agreements, licensing agreements, etc.
• Communicate with clients and provide status reports.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school
• Must be admitted to practice in the State of California
• 5 - 15 years of experience with intellectual property litigation
• Federal/State court litigation experience required with demonstrated experience writing and arguing motions
• Experience taking/defending depositions requiredExperience with privacy, AI and data governance and/or data privacy litigation is strongly preferred, interest in developing expertise
• Experience with advertising law, art law, fashion law, internet law and/or transactional matters is a plus
• Demonstrated track record of thought leadership in IP is a strong plus
• Excellent analytical, writing, client service, and professional communications skills
• Legal project management experience is helpful

Wilson Elser offers a competitive salary and benefits package designed to support our attorneys both professionally and personally. A variety of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, education, licensure and/or certifications, geographic location, market demands, other business and organizational needs, and other factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for discretionary bonuses. Final salary wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. This position is considered full‑time and therefore qualifies for benefits including 401(k) retirement savings plan, medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

Salary Range:: $180,000 USD - $210,000 USD
