Job summary

Nevada Department of Corrections seeks a Corrections Counselor II to deliver mental health services to offenders at Ely State Prison. Under supervision, you will conduct interviews, develop treatment plans, provide psycho-educational classes, and prepare written reports supporting offender rehabilitation.

The role involves collaborating with the treatment team, delivering counseling and crisis intervention, and participating in planning and quality review activities within a correctional setting.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Doctoral degree as specified above.
• Two years of post-master's degree experience providing therapy and programmatic services in a correctional or institutional setting.
• Two years of experience as a Corrections Counselor I in Nevada State service.

Responsibilities

• Interview inmates to determine treatment, programming, or placement needs; prepare written reports.
• Provide counseling, relaxation, relationship, substance abuse, and pain management counseling to facilitate recovery and maintain offender in least restrictive environment.
• Provide crisis intervention using de-escalation techniques to protect offenders, staff and others; coordinate crisis debriefing as needed.
• Consult and train staff on current policies, procedures, and ethical requirements with up-to-date scientific developments.
• Plan, develop, and coordinate program services; participate in unit management teams for service delivery.
• Document activities in reports and charts to meet legal requirements; assist with billing and third-party payments as appropriate.
• Conduct research/evaluation studies for data collection to enhance services, including offender characteristics and outcomes.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
