Job summary

American Oncology Network, Inc. is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to manage the PA authorization process for orders from clinics in a fast-paced, multi-site pharmacy environment in Fort Myers, FL.

You will handle prior authorizations, follow-ups, and patient communications to ensure timely delivery and status updates. You will also assist with appeals, provide backup support, and train staff on PA procedures while maintaining regulatory permits and compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in Retail/Specialty/Hospital Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician preferred; medical terminology and attention to detail required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Submit prior authorizations on behalf of physicians and monitor each PA through approval/denial progression.
  • Initiate and coordinate first-level appeal reviews when needed.
  • Provide backup support to pharmacy staff and assist with PAP, SP follow-ups and claims adjudication.
  • Educate and train staff on PA processes and maintain required permits.
  • Handle incoming/outgoing calls and emails from patients, provide delivery updates and Rx status.

Location:AON PharmacyPay Range:$18.93 - $31.56Position Summary:The technician shall be responsible for the authorization process of orders coming into the Pharmacy from clinicsKey Performance Areas:KPA 1 – Prior and REMS AuthorizationsSubmit prior authorizations on behalf of physiciansFollow up on submitted PA requests when no response is receivedMonitor each PA through the process until approved/denied, and inform patient, staff and clinic as indicated.Responsible for assisting the clinicians in obtaining Celgene authorization and confirmation numbers.KPA 2 – AppealsWill review and initiate prior authorization appeal services to include first level appeal reviews. Will coordinate appeal reviews with Medical Director(s) of pharmacy benefit managers and/or peer-to-peer interviews as required.KPA 3 – Backup to pharmacy staffWill monitor daily activities and provide backup support where needed, including PAP, SP follow-ups, BV and claims adjudication as needed.KPA 4 – Education & TrainingResponsible for keeping up on all applicable training and education for maintenance of permit.Will train staff on PA processes.KPA 5 – Customer ServiceIncoming and outgoing calls/emails to patients. Routing of calls to appropriate staff.
