Job summary

PlanetArt in Woodridge, IL, is seeking a Print Production Operator to run and maintain HP Indigo 15k presses, ensuring adherence to printing specifications and customer expectations. You will work under the Print Operations Supervisor on a full-time schedule, with peak-period shifts including weekends.

You should have a high school diploma and 1–3+ years’ experience with Indigo digital presses, plus relevant certification.

Qualifications

  • High school or vocational/technical school diploma or certificate.
  • 1 to 3+ years’ operating commercial Indigo digital presses preferred.
  • HP Indigo Operator Level I or Level II certification is strongly preferred.
  • Additional courses in Print Production or Operations are beneficial but not required.
  • Background and experience in a print operation, preferably digital press print operation.
  • Advanced understanding of RIP software, digital prepress workflows, and variable data file processing.

Responsibilities

  • Run and maintain day-to-day activities of the HP Indigo 15k press.
  • Configure, calibrate, and run HP Indigo 15k machinery from start to finish.
  • Diagnose machine defects and interpret software errors; collaborate with HP engineering support.
  • Monitor press color and registration for consistency.
  • Inspect proof sheets to evaluate print quality.
  • Adjust press machinery to meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain upkeep, scheduling, and repair management of press equipment with third-party providers.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on presses.
  • Assist Print Production Supervisor with production, quality, and departmental issues.
  • Plan production capacity with supervisor and schedule resources accordingly.
  • Analyze workflow and recommend improvements.
  • Monitor supply inventory and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Overview

As a member of the PlanetArt team, reporting directly to the Print Operations Supervisor, the Print Production Operator is responsible for running and maintaining the day-to-day operation of HP Indigo 15k digital presses. This person will be vital to the print operations ensuring all jobs are in accordance with the printing specifications and customer requirements/expectations.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday 6:00 am – 2:30 pm. Mandatory 10- and 12-hour days, including weekend hours, during all peak periods. Transfer to 2nd shift may be required during peak periods.

What You’ll Do
Key Responsibilities
  • Running and maintaining the day-to-day activities of an HP Indigo 15k
  • Configure, calibrate, and run HP Indigo 15k machinery from start to finish.
  • Diagnose machine defects, interpret software errors, and work with remote HP engineering support to resolve issues.
  • Monitor the press, checking color and registration to maintain consistency.
  • Inspect proof sheets to evaluate the quality of printing.
  • Adjust press machinery to meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain responsibility for the upkeep, maintenance scheduling, and repair management of press equipment in collaboration with third-party service providers.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on presses.
  • Responsible for assisting the Print Production Supervisor with production, quality, and departmental issues.
  • Work with Supervisor to plan production capacity; help schedule resources appropriately to efficiently execute the production plan.
  • Analyze workflow and recommend improvements.
  • You will be expected to monitor supply inventory and request replenishment when necessary and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Should Have
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements
  • High school or vocational/technical school diploma or certificate.
  • 1 to 3+ years’ operating commercial Indigo digital presses preferred.
  • HP Indigo Operator Level I or Level II certification is strongly preferred.
  • Additional courses in Print Production or Operations and other similar functional areas are beneficial but not required.
  • Background and experience in a print operation, preferably digital press print operation.
  • Advanced understanding of RIP software, digital prepress workflows, and variable data file processing.
  • Mechanical aptitude and skills to perform technical adjustment and maintenance of the digital press and other equipment.
  • Prior basic computer experience/aptitude with an understanding of the basic concept of prepress.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage relationships with internal customers.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent creative thinking/problem-solving ability.
  • Has pristine attention to detail for quality control purposes.

Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing / warehouse environment with exposure to the following: heavy machinery, dust, noise.
  • Position requires frequent and sustained walking and/or standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Position requires regular lifting up to 60 lbs. and repetitive activities, including but not limited to, pulling, pushing, grabbing and hand motions.

The compensation range for this position is $20 - $22 hourly rate.
