Position Summary

As a Principal ML System Engineer in the Rovo & AI Engineering organization, you will contribute to Rovo Chat by delivering cutting‑edge innovations that improve quality, reliability, and latency. You will lead engineering teams from technical design through launch, collaborate with internal customers, and help realize AI’s transformative potential across Atlassian’s product suite.

Responsibilities

• Lead other engineers to develop agent harnesses that provide step-function improvements in quality, reliability, and latency.
• Collaborate with teams and customers to set expectations, gather input, and communicate results.
• Drive projects from design to launch, ensuring best-in-class AI solutions are delivered.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as a software developer.
• Experience building customer-facing Gen AI applications at scale.
• Experience advancing the state of the art to achieve breakthrough quality and reliability.
• Deep understanding of machine‑learning project lifecycle.
• Experience leading and supporting senior engineers and working cross‑functionally.

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in platform approaches for building product features that enable multi‑team contributions.
• Experience efficiently scaling and deploying machine‑learning models.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation ranges for new hires in the United States are: Zone A: $232,200–$303,150; Zone B: $209,700–$273,775; Zone C: $193,500–$252,625.

In addition to base pay, the role may be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
