Job summary

HDR is seeking a Principal Transportation Project Manager to lead multi-discipline teams from development to close-out, coordinate staffing and manage budgets across complex transportation projects.

The role requires a BS in Engineering, 7+ years PM experience, PE license and strong leadership with business development capabilities. Office software proficiency (MS Office, MS Project, Access) is needed, with an employee-owned culture and collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • PE license recognized by the licensing board required.
  • Minimum 7 years of project management experience within engineering contexts.
  • Strong leadership and business development skills expected.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate multi-discipline teams through project lifecycle.
  • Establish client relations and participate in marketing, design and production meetings.
  • Track budgets and schedules to deliver within agreed parameters.
  • Mentor junior project managers and supervise large project teams.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures and ensure deliverables meet quality standards.

In the role of Principal Transportation Project Manager, we'll count on you to:

  • Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's lifecycle (from development & initiation to close-out)
  • Responsible for any project assignment regardless of size, visibility, number of disciplines, technical complexity or number of staff.
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
  • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
  • Conduct work sessions for deliverable development in conjunction with other staff and stakeholders
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
  • Work with the Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
  • Implement QA/QC procedures
  • Supervise large project staffs and act as mentor for less-experienced Project Managers
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • PMP certification
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 15 years related experience
  • A minimum 7 years project management experience

Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.

  • MS Office and MS Project experience is required (Access experience would be plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
