Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a junior or mid level Energetics MFG engineer (Tool Engineer) to support its Clearfield Facility in Utah. You will oversee tooling design, fabrication drawings, inspection requirements and procurement for aerospace tooling.

The role requires a Bachelor in a STEM field with 5+ years of engineering experience, strong CAD/FEA skills, and the ability to travel. U.S. government clearance is required for this position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in a STEM discipline with a minimum 5 years technical experience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and related equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate vendor and equipment capability and perform required tasks including production of tooling and aerospace parts.
  • Experience with hand calculation analysis and CAD modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with review team to assure customer satisfaction with design.
  • Manage projects and coordinate procurements and fabrication to meet cost and schedule requirements.
  • Inspect fabricated support hardware for design compliance.
  • Travel to suppliers to support fabrication (15–20%).

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking a junior or mid level Energetics MFG engineer (level 2 or 3) also known as a Tool Engineer to support our Clearfield Facility in Utah.

Candidate will be responsible for the concept, design, engineering, fabrication drawings, inspection requirements, procurement requirements, verification requirements, and fabrication support for tooling and equipment for Aerospace applications.

  • Interface with review team to assure customer satisfaction with design
  • Manage projects and coordinate all procurements and fabrication to meet the program cost and schedule requirements
  • Inspect fabricated support hardware to assure compliance to design
  • Work alongside the manufacturing team to ensure overall program quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved
  • Work with internal customers to define needed support equipment for new and existing programs
  • Develop tooling concepts, creating/reviewing and improving manufacturing processes to meet customer requirements
  • Work closely with tool designers to create final drawings
  • Perform stress analysis to assure mechanically sound per NG requirements
  • Understand/monitor cost and schedule
  • Review engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability
  • Travel to suppliers to support them as needed during fabrication
  • Inspect tool configuration for drawing compliance, including fit, form and function
  • Support continuous improvement
  • Support operations and process engineering in the use of all tooling

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor in a STEM discipline with a minimum 5 years technical experience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and related equipment.
  • May be hired one level lower (level 2) with B.S. and 2 years minimum equivalent technical work experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate vendor and equipment capability and ability to perform required tasks to include production of tooling as well as unique aerospace part production.
  • Experience with hand calculation analysis and Finite Element analysis practices CAD modeling experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and present to large audience of upper management of 20 or more
  • Experience with concept of design for manufacturing
  • Experience with various inspection methods and understanding design for inspection
  • Ability to travel to suppliers to inspect equipment prior to shipment (15-20% travel)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Tooling design and analysis experience
  • Hands on fabrication and manufacturing experience
  • NX modeling experience
  • Abaqus Finite Element Analysis FEA experience
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Tolerance stack calculations
  • Strong technical writing skills

Primary Level Salary Range: $88,000.00 - $109,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $109,000.00 - $135,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
