Job description

Overview

Voyager is a defense, national security and space technology company focused on advancing mission-critical solutions. We seek a Principal Technical Director, AI-Enabled Spectrum Dominance to lead the technical vision for advanced RF systems, software, algorithms, and agentic AI applications for space-based and terrestrial electromagnetic warfare and sensing.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership & Vision: Define and drive the technical roadmap for Voyager’s Spectrum Dominance portfolio across RF, EW, radar, and sensing programs, with emphasis on space-based active and passive RF systems.
  • AI-Driven RF Design: Set the direction for applying Agentic Computational Engineering to RF hardware design, DSP algorithm development, and end-to-end RF system integration.
  • Agentic AI for RF Engineering: Lead how AI agents are used across the RF design lifecycle, from generative antenna/front-end design to automated DSP algorithm synthesis and simulation-in-the-loop optimization.
  • ACE Platform Deployment: Oversee deployment of Voyager’s ACE platform for RF-specific applications, enabling AI agents to autonomously design, simulate, evaluate, and optimize RF hardware and DSP subsystems.
  • Domain-Specific AI Agents: Develop AI agents for RF engineering workflows, including electromagnetic simulation, transceiver architecture exploration, waveform design, interference analysis, and signal chain optimization.
  • Requirements & Integration: Define requirements for agent orchestration and physics simulation integration (EM solvers, thermal analysis, signal integrity), and design-for-manufacturing constraints for space-qualified RF hardware.
  • Automated Simulation Loops: Establish automated loops between RF/DSP design agents and high-fidelity physics solvers, including antenna patterns, RCS analysis, link budgets, and spectral performance.
  • Adoption of AI Workflows: Promote AI-first workflows across RF engineering, including LLM-based tools to accelerate documentation, design reviews, test planning, and compliance verification.
  • R&D Execution: Lead complex, high-stakes R&D programs for next-generation space-based and terrestrial RF systems, managing technical risk and delivering solutions on schedule.
  • System Design & Testing: Oversee design, analysis, and testing of advanced RF systems (satellite payloads, space-based SIGINT/ELINT, SAR, and passive RF sensing) including space environment considerations.
  • End-to-End System Architecture: Architect complete RF systems bridging DSP algorithms, SDR hardware, FPGA/SoC platforms, and mission software for space and ground segments.
  • Productization & Commercialization: Guide technologies from early concepts to productized solutions, coordinating with product and business teams on commercialization strategies and leveraging ACE for rapid iteration.
  • Team Building & Mentorship: Build and lead a multidisciplinary engineering team; mentor engineers and researchers to foster rigor, creativity, and rapid iteration.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with business development, capture teams, and other Voyager domain teams to ensure RF agentic capabilities integrate with the Generative Engine ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field. U.S. citizenship with eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government clearance.
  • Space-Based RF Systems: Experience with space-based active and/or passive RF systems and the unique constraints of the space environment (radiation hardening, thermal management, power budgeting, long-duration reliability).
  • RF Systems & SDR Proficiency: End-to-end RF system design experience and familiarity with modern SDR architectures; strong understanding of RF front-ends and digital subsystems.
  • DSP & RF ML: Experience designing DSP and RF machine learning algorithms; applying AI/ML techniques to RF problems.
  • R&D Leadership: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through full R&D lifecycles from concept to prototype to deployment.
  • Domain Expertise: Experience in SIGINT, EW, or Radar, with space-based applications preferred.
  • Programmatic Execution: Familiarity with government R&D contracting and delivering against technical milestones for agencies such as DARPA, ONR, AFRL, NRO, or Space Force.
  • Proposal Development: Experience contributing to technical volumes and cost estimates for complex solicitations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field.
  • Active U.S. Top Secret / SCI security clearance.
  • Experience with space-based RF payload programs for DoD or Intelligence Community customers.
  • Interest in AI-driven engineering workflows, agentic AI systems, or generative design platforms.
  • Familiarity with agent orchestration frameworks and multi-agent system concepts for hardware design.
  • Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools (HFSS, CST, FEKO, or equivalent) and AI-assisted simulation.
  • Track record of productizing R&D into shipping products and leading successful space-based RF proposals.
  • Knowledge of orbit-specific RF considerations: Doppler, atmospheric propagation, link budgets, anti-jam, LPI waveforms.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to customer sites and Voyager locations.
