Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.

  • Experience defining system architectures and developing complex multidisciplinary systems.
  • Experience leading complex system analysis from concept through commercialization.
  • Proficiency with requirements management and traceability tools such as Jama, CodeBeamer, Jira or equivalent platforms.
  • Demonstrated expertise in requirements engineering, including requirements development, decomposition, allocation and traceability.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and system‑level expertise for the design, development, integration and commercialization of complex medical device systems.
  • Lead cross‑functional technical decision‑making, build alignment on technical strategies and secure agreement across engineering, functional management and business leadership.
  • Define, maintain and evolve system architecture, including functional and physical architectures, subsystem partitioning, interface definitions and system performance requirements.
  • Lead end‑to‑end system integration across hardware, software, electrical, mechanical, optical, manufacturing and disposable subsystems.
  • Drive systems engineering best practices across projects, including system concept development, architecture, interface management, technical documentation and lifecycle traceability.
  • Translate customer, clinical and stakeholder needs into clear, testable system requirements while ensuring end‑to‑end traceability throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Lead system‑level trade studies and design evaluations to assess technical alternatives, optimize performance and reduce development risk.
  • Identify, troubleshoot and resolve complex system integration issues while communicating technical progress, risks and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Develop and apply analytical methods, including modeling, simulation, mathematical analysis and system characterization, to solve complex engineering problems and drive corrective actions.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership while advancing systems engineering methodologies and best practices across the organization.

Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Systems Engineer - P5 to provide technical leadership for the development of complex medical device systems within the Interventional Cardiology division. In this role, you will drive systems engineering activities across the product lifecycle, including system architecture, requirements development and traceability, interface management, system integration, verification and validation, and technical risk management. As a system‑level technical leader, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams across electrical, mechanical, software, design assurance, sustaining, regulatory and clinical engineering to translate customer and clinical needs into innovative, reliable and compliant medical device solutions from concept through commercialization and sustaining.

Your responsibilities will include:

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or doctorate in Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a formal systems engineering role.
  • Medical device industry experience with design controls, including user needs, intended use, system requirements, system design and traceability.
  • Experience with risk management, including identifying and implementing effective risk controls.
  • Experience in human factors engineering, usability engineering or ergonomic design.
  • Experience defining and implementing cybersecurity requirements and secure‑by‑design principles for connected medical devices.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross‑functional technical teams and high‑visibility, strategic product development initiatives.

Minimum Salary:$102100

Maximum Salary: $194000
