About the Role
Principal Subcontract Specialist / Senior Principal Subcontract Specialist, supporting U.S. Government programs on complex, specialized goods and services.
Responsibilities
- Source and procure complex, specialized goods and services.
- Own contractual management for the supplier.
- Conduct subcontract sourcing, proposal evaluation, negotiation, award, execution, administration, and closeout phases.
- Coordinate and collaborate with key stakeholders such as legal, contracts, finance, planning, operations, program management, engineering, and quality.
- Monitor and manage schedule, cost, technical and quality performance of suppliers.
- Interface with supplier leadership to motivate and drive excellence in contractual performance.
- Provide subcontracting process and compliance guidance to junior subcontract specialists and integrated product team leads.
- Serve as subject matter expert in all aspects of supplier and subcontract management.
- Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, and public law requirements, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Identify strategies to reduce cost, improve efficiency, and manage risk through strategic negotiations.
- Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to program risk and opportunity management.
- Utilize process tools such as Lean Six Sigma to drive quality and continuous improvement.
Essential Functions

- Assess supplier performance and communicate feedback.
- Manage supplier performance throughout the subcontracting lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with all FAR, DFARS, and public law requirements.
- Identify strategies to reduce cost, improve efficiency, and manage risk.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, customers, and stakeholders.
- Contribute to program risk and opportunity management.
- Utilize Lean Six Sigma with suppliers to drive quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Basic Qualifications
- Principal Subcontract Specialist: Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years experience in Subcontracts, Procurement, Contracts, Project Management or Finance, OR Master’s Degree with 3+ years experience. Minimum 9 years combined experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Senior Principal Subcontract Specialist: Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years experience, OR Master’s Degree with 6+ years experience. Minimum 12 years combined experience may be considered.
- Experience with SAP or related business application software.
- Working knowledge of FAR and DFARS.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. DoD security clearance at the Secret level and Special Program Access.
Preferred Qualifications
- Principal Subcontract Specialist: Master’s degree in Global Supply Chain, familiarity with FAR and DFARS, negotiation skills for contracts over $25M, oral presentation experience to senior leadership, knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS), control account manager experience, business law, risk mitigation, change management.
- Senior Principal Subcontract Specialist: Master’s degree in Supply Chain, experience with high-dollar development subcontracts ($100M+), negotiation skills for contracts over $100M, team lead or management experience, oral presentation skills, EVMS knowledge, control account manager experience, business law, risk mitigation, change management.
Salary & Benefits
Primary Level: $81,400 - $122,000
Secondary Level: $101,400 - $152,200
Eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, long‑term incentives for VP/Director positions.
