Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Northridge, CA seeks a Principal or Senior Principal Software Engineer (Level 3/4) to join our Advanced Weapons division. You will contribute to next-generation defense software, implement and test STE software, and support Windows and Linux desktop applications.

Requires US citizenship and active DoD Secret clearance. Candidates should have strong C/C++ experience, familiarity with MIL-STD-1553, TCP/IP, and lab environments, plus a track record in software requirements

Principal/Sr.Principal Software Engineer Level 3/4

As an integral part of our multi-discipline engineering team in the Advanced Weapons division, you will be on the forefront of developing next-generation solutions to protect technology for our nation’s warfighters. The ideal candidate will be supporting all of our programs for implementing, testing, and extending our STE software. This position is required to be full-time, on-site in the Northridge, CA location. No remote/telework arrangement is available for this position. Relocation assistance, while not guaranteed, may be available.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Generate software documentation.
• Develop, implement, and maintain existing software for primarily Windows based desktop applications.
• Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle activities.
• Use test equipment to troubleshoot software and hardware.

Basic Qualifications

US Citizenship and Active DoD Secret Clearance. For Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 8+ years of experience or Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of experience. For Principal Embedded Software Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 5+ years of experience or Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of experience. Strong professional experience developing software in C/C++ on Windows 10, 11, and Linux (preferably CentOS) Experience operating oscilloscopes, power meters, power supplies, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers Experience with MIL-STD-1553, TCP/IP, Serial, and Ethernet network communication protocols Experience in deriving software requirements from system requirements; working with SRSs, ICDs, CDRLs Advanced hands‑on system troubleshooting and determining root‑cause analysis. Experience working in a Lab environment or production floor. Self-directed and able to manage your own time with little oversight.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working experience in Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.
• Experience with DOORS and/or EPLM.
• Experience working with hardware programmers such as JTAG and ability to set up test equipment to support software development.
• Experience in other Object Oriented Programming languages like C#.
• Experience in embedded systems design with preemptive, multitasking real-time operating systems.

• Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
• Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
• Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
