Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems seeks a Principal/Sr Principal Project Manager for SMT Support in Roy, UT.

This role manages schedules, budgets, risks, and stakeholder communications on the Sentinel program, with a 9/80 schedule and relocation assistance possible.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years related experience; master's 3+; PhD 1+ or equivalent experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience leading a project or driving performance against schedule.
  • U.S. citizen with active DoD Secret clearance; SAP eligibility considered.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project).
  • Knowledge of Project Management principles and best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction and present work for high-level review.
  • Experience planning, scheduling, and managing multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Experience developing content, packaging, and briefing communications.

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking Principal/Sr Principal Project Manager - SMT Support. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What You’ll Get To Do:

Project Managers serve as the primary liaison between projects and stakeholders, regularly reviewing status, managing schedules, and preparing reports. They apply their knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques across all project phases—Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring, Controlling, and Closing to deliver projects on time, within scope, on budget, and with high quality. Their core duties include developing and maintaining comprehensive project plans that encompass such items as work breakdown structures, detailed schedules, cost estimates, and resource allocations, while continuously monitoring progress, tracking performance, and reporting status. They also identify, assess, and mitigate risks and opportunities, ensuring compliance with standards such as Earned Value Management and aligning deliverables with Northrop Grumman requirements. In addition to technical competencies, Project Managers must demonstrate strong soft skill capabilities. Effective communication, leadership, problem solving, and negotiation are essential for managing stakeholder expectations and supporting team members. They are expected to uphold company values, make business savvy decisions, and foster collaboration, all of which keep projects aligned with organizational goals and ensure successful outcomes.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Project Manager: Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience; master's degree and 3 years’ experience; PhD and 1 years’ experience or an additional 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree

  • At least 1 years of experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule.

  • Sr Principal Project Manager: Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience; master's degree and 6 years’ experience; PhD and 4 years’ experience or an additional 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.

  • At least 4 years of experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule.

  • Must be a U.S citizen and have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business need.

  • Demonstrated track record/ experience in project management/ execution and closeout.

  • Skilled use of Microsoft Office Products (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Project Management principles.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, peers, and customers.

  • Experience planning, scheduling, and managing projects with many different stakeholders.

  • Experience developing content, packaging, and briefing communication

  • Capable of working with minimal direction, independently determines and develops technical objectives of assignments, and presents work upon completion for high level review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP Certification.

  • Firm understanding and application of Earned Value Management System (EVMS).

  • Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization and with outside organizations.

  • Executive presence and comfort in communications at that level.

  • 1-3 years of experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) principles and application or as a Cost Account Manager (CAM).

  • Experience with establishing Strategy, Roadmap, Vision artifacts.

  • Demonstrated experience using SAP, Windows software packages, Atlassian Tool Suite, and other electronic databases.

  • Proficient in Agile Development.

  • Experience with managing suppliers or inter-divisional partners.

  • A successful track record of program performance, interpersonal team building skills, and management experience.

Primary Level Salary Range: $81,400.00 - $122,000.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $101,400.00 - $152,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
