Job summary

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) in Salt Lake City, Utah, is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer or SR Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our Systems Manufacturing Engineering team.

You will support manufacturing operations to produce precision inertial measurement and navigation systems for land, air, marine and space applications, leading root-cause investigations, defining build instructions, and driving process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or higher with manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in troubleshooting manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications and parts lists.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP/MES systems; knowledge of SAP is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with production operators to troubleshoot issues and suggest process improvements.
  • Create process flow diagrams and define build sequences.
  • Lead investigations to determine root causes and coordinate cross-functional actions.
  • Evaluate designs for manufacturability and drive cost- and yield-improvement projects.
  • Use SPC and data-driven methods to guide process improvements.

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Principal/SR Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a member of the Systems Manufacturing Engineering team, you will support manufacturing operations to produce precision, high-quality, inertial measurement and navigation systems. These systems are deployed in multiple applications including land vehicles, marine vessels, aircraft, and spacecraft.


What You'll Get To Do


  • Interact frequently with production operators to understand and troubleshoot manufacturing issues and receive inputs on potential process improvements.

  • Create process flow diagrams and define the sequence of operations for build instructions.

  • Lead investigations of production issues to determine root causes and coordinate cross-functional team actions to address material deficiencies, equipment malfunctions, and assembly process errors.

  • Perform critical evaluations of new systems designs and influence design and materials engineering decisions to ensure manufacturability.

  • Evaluate process capabilities and drive continuous improvement projects.

  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes while considering cost/benefit analysis.

  • Utilize statistical process control and data driven methods to guide process, yield, and cost improvements.

Basic Qualifications For a Principal Manufacturing Engineer


  • Bachelor of Science degree with 5 years of experience; Masters of Science degree with 3 years of experience; PhD Degree with 1 years of experience.

  • Experience working in an engineering environment supporting manufacturing processes.

  • Experience performing troubleshooting of production issues related to process, equipment, or materials.

  • Experience reading and understanding engineering drawings, specifications, and parts lists.

  • Experience using an MRP/ERP/MES system.

  • Experience in root cause/corrective action implementation.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project)

  • US Citizenship required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level clearance.

  • Bachelor of Science degree with 8 years of experience; Masters of Science degree with 6 years of experience; PhD Degree with 4 years of experience.

  • Experience working in an engineering environment supporting manufacturing processes.

  • Experience performing troubleshooting of production issues related to process, equipment, or materials.

  • Experience reading and understanding engineering drawings, specifications, and parts lists.

  • Experience using an MRP/ERP/MES system.

  • Experience in root cause/corrective action implementation.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project)

  • US Citizenship required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level clearance.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience providing direct engineering support for electro-optical assembly equipment, processes, and materials.

  • Prior experience with fiber optics handling.

  • Experience developing and implementing new designs and products into manufacturing.

  • Experience in defense or related industry.

  • SAP experience.

  • Lean/6-sigma training.

  • Experience with computer aided design tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

  • Strong project management skills (work breakdown, task planning, scheduling, performance-to-plan tracking).

  • Active Secret Clearance.

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00


Secondary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 - $167,500.00


The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.


Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
