Position Title: Principal Solution Architect/Senior Solutions Architect
Location: Remote
Travel: Up to 15% within North America
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a WMS-agnostic warehouse architect who can look beyond a single platform and determine the right solution for the overall distribution center ecosystem.
This person has personally owned architectural decisions around what belongs in the WMS, what should be extended, and what should be built or integrated externally. They understand the boundaries between WMS, WES, WCS, automation, and surrounding systems and can balance technology decisions with real-world warehouse operations.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Solution Architect to define and evolve the technology architecture supporting a network of large-scale, highly automated distribution centers handling 100,000+ daily customer shipments.
This role will architect across the broader warehouse technology ecosystem, including WMS, WES, WCS, automation, integrations, data, and supporting platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Define end-to-end architecture and technology roadmaps for distribution center operations.
- Establish architectural boundaries between WMS, WES, WCS, automation, integration, data, and other platforms.
- Evaluate when to use standard WMS functionality, extend an existing platform, integrate a COTS solution, or build custom capabilities.
- Design and govern integrations between WMS and systems such as WES, WCS, TMS, YMS, robotics, automation, and analytics platforms.
- Identify solutions when WMS platforms cannot adequately support business requirements.
- Drive modern architecture practices including API-based, event-driven, domain-aligned, and scalable solutions.
- Partner with Product Management and distribution operations leaders on capabilities, roadmaps, and architectural decisions.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to architecture, engineering, and delivery teams.
- Communicate architectural options, trade-offs, and recommendations to technical and senior business stakeholders.
- Partner with OT, network, security, data, and enterprise architects across the distribution center ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
- Senior-level architecture experience within warehouse technology, distribution centers, supply chain, or a related domain.
- Proven experience owning end-to-end warehouse architecture decisions, rather than simply implementing a predefined solution.
- Experience with one or more major WMS platforms such as Manhattan, Blue Yonder, Körber, EWM or similar.
- Strong understanding of WMS, WES, and WCS, including how they interact and where their responsibilities begin and end.
- Experience extending WMS platforms or developing/integrating external capabilities when standard functionality does not meet business needs.
- Strong understanding of APIs, event-driven architecture, distributed systems, and modern integration patterns.
- Strong knowledge of distribution center operations, particularly large-scale or highly automated environments.
- Ability to evaluate technical and business trade-offs across multiple platforms and technologies.
- Strong communication skills with technical, product, operations, and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- In-house architecture experience with a large retailer, distributor, manufacturer, or other high-volume operator.
- Experience working across multiple WMS platforms or warehouse technology ecosystems.
- Experience with WMS transformations, migrations, or modernization programs.
- Experience with WES, WCS, robotics, ASRS, conveyance, or other warehouse automation.
- Experience with event-driven architecture, API-first design, domain-driven design, and modern distributed systems.
- SAP EWM and S/4HANA experience.
- Experience working with specialized warehouse technology consulting firms.
