Job summary

State Street Corporation seeks a highly experienced full-stack software engineer to design and implement complex wealth and investment management workflows within the Charles River Development platform. You will build scalable web services, contribute to cloud migration, and ensure performance through testing and automation.

The role requires deep Java/C#/SQL/JavaScript expertise, a strong financial services background, and at least five years of Agile practice.

Qualifications

  • Ten years of progressively responsible professional software engineering experience.
  • At least six years delivering solutions in financial services such as Portfolio Management, Trading, Compliance or Wealth Management.
  • Strong object-oriented programming, database, and modern language expertise; excellent communication skills; Agile experience (min 5 years).

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, develop, test, and debug large complex software enhancements for CRD platforms.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts and Product Managers to craft sustainable software solutions.
  • Lead code reviews, mentor staff, and guide architecture discussions across teams.
  • Develop and maintain large-scale web services, test automation, and performance improvements.
  • Contribute to cloud migration efforts using Azure, microservices, and event-driven patterns.
  • Write unit and automation tests to assure high-quality deliverables.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and cross-team planning activities.

The team sits in the heart of this solution set providing critical support for the platform. This position will become a critical contributor and take ownership of designing and implementing these complex wealth and investment management workflows leveraged by some of the largest participants in the industry. This position will be a full stack developer working on projects of rich functionality, web services, writing test and performance automation, improving system scalability, and performance. The team maintains a highly collaborative work environment. The company is migrating its architecture to a highly scalable cloud-based solution. As part of this effort, engineers will work on some of the following technologies: Azure, React, Kubernetes, Kafka, event driven architecture, and micro-services.

Responsibilities
  • Drive technical excellence by working independently to analyze, design, develop, test, and debug large and complex software enhancements and solutions within Charles River's business and technical problem domains including modifications to core frameworks and other primary facilities critical to system operation
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts and Product Managers to create simple and sustainable software solutions for complex problems
  • Provide thought leadership in the design of product architecture within and beyond the team's scope of responsibility
  • Direct problem solving for projects or major phases of projects to resolve advanced software technical issues
  • Develop, test, debug, and implement software programs, applications and projects using Java, C#, SQL, JavaScript, or other related software engineering languages as well as keeping abreast of emerging technologies impactful to CRDs business
  • Provide informed guidance and critical analysis of proposed changes during code reviews
  • Write unit and automation tests to ensure a high quality end product
  • Identify ways of improving development test methodologies contribute to and related test methodology frameworks
  • Conduct manual tests to ensure a high quality end product
  • Provide expert level troubleshooting on large, mission critical client implementations
  • Actively assist team leaders in the agile software development process by adhering to and advancing the CRD scrum methodology, including attending all daily standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives
  • Plan and coordinate cross-team activities groups to complete assignments
  • Advise senior management on technical strategy
  • Provide mentoring to junior and senior staff
Education
  • B.S. degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics or other technical course of study required.
  • MS degree strongly preferred.
Experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional software engineering experience
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in financial services developing solutions for Portfolio Management, Trading, Compliance, Post-Trade, IBOR or Wealth Management is strongly desired
  • Authoritative experience with object-oriented programming, compiler or interpreter technologies, embedded systems, operating systems, relational databases (RDBMS), scripting and new/advanced programming languages
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities involving multi-tiered, high-performance database applications
  • Demonstrated ability to design and develop simple software solutions to business and technical problems of high complexity
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work well with peers in a collaborative team environment
  • A minimum of 5 years working with an Agile development methodology
Salary Range

$110,000 - $185,000 Annual The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
