Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking a senior software engineer to lead the development of our digital twin and simulation stack in Irving, TX. This full-time role focuses on building a scalable, high-quality software platform for autonomous construction technologies.

You will mentor a team of engineers, shape software processes, and translate business needs into robust designs while working closely with robotics and other teams to ensure aligned priorities and value.

Qualifications

• Experience building simulation and rendering platforms.
• 3D object rendering and manipulation experience.
• Experience with mapping tech (GIS, terrain mapping, OpenLayers).
• Experience with web graphics libraries and APIs (GraphQL).
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL DB schemas and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Ability to learn new technologies and drive engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of the full-stack simulation software stack.
• Mentor engineers and participate in hiring and onboarding.
• Define software development and QA processes and standards.
• Translate business requirements into software designs.
• Collaborate with robotics and other teams to align needs and reduce gaps.
• Drive agile processes, CI/CD discussions, and peer reviews.
• Lead ideation sessions and contribute to architecture discussions.

We are looking for a senior software engineer to lead the development of our digitial twin and simulation stack. This is a key position which will both define and build the stack.

What you will do:

• Lead the development of the simulation Software stack- full stack
• Support your manager in hiring, technical interviewing and onboarding
• Mentor and lead team of software engineers
• Define and implement software development processes, qa/qc processes, define standards, etc.
• Participate in architecture and requirements discussions
• Translate Business Requirements to Software designs and implementations
• Work tightly with the Robotic team and any other team, aligning their needs with your implementation, reducing gaps and deviations, while focussing on Quality and Value.
• Lead agile process definition, team charter, CI/CD discussion, etc. including the Peer Review Process.
• Lead brainstorming and ideation sessions

Required

• Experience of building simulation and rendering platforms
• Experience in 3D object rendering and manipulation
• Experienced with mapping technology (Like GIS, Terrain mapping, OpenLayers)
• Experienced in leveraging web graphic / animation standard library
• Advance knowledge of designing, building and using open source, publish data and APIs (like graphQL)
• Experienced in designing, publishing and maintaining DB schema (SQL, NoSQL)
• Experienced in setting best practices and processes for engineering team
• Deep experience in using AI coding tool (like Claude, Copilot, Cursor)
• Proven experience in learning new technology (self learning)
• Experience with Cloud Platform such as AWS (Preferred), Azure, Google cloud / Firebase
• Experience with web automation tooling and deploying on CI/CD (Like WebPack, ESLint, Playright)

Top Candidate:

• 7+ years of experience hands on coding backend in coding language such as Java or Node.Js
• 5+ years of experience hands on coding frontend in coding language such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• 5+ years of experience hands on coding with Framework such as Angular, React/NextJs
• 5+ years of experience with agile methodology
• Good knowledge of Python
• Experience with Nvidia Omniverse or other Simulation Platform

• This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Irving, TX office (Dallas)

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $240,110.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
