Job summary

KBR is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to support the MSEIT contract at Space Systems Command. The role spans hands-on development, architecture, and leadership across multiple mission-focused teams in a modern cloud-native, DevSecOps environment.

Responsibilities include full stack development, architectural guidance, event-driven design, and enterprise integration. El Segundo, CA with work-from-home flexibility and minimal travel. A DoD clearance and 10+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or related technical field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• DoD Secret clearance (ability to obtain/maintain).
• Extensive experience with Angular or similar modern front-end frameworks.
• Strong backend design/implementation of scalable APIs and services.
• Extensive experience with Kafka and event-driven architecture patterns.
• Experience with distributed systems design and enterprise integration patterns.
• Experience working in Agile software development environments.
• Strong DevSecOps practices knowledge and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Full Stack Development: design, develop, test, and maintain mission-critical software across front-end, back-end, and service layers.
• Technical Leadership: provide hands-on leadership and engineering guidance across multiple software teams.
• Architecture Development: define and evolve application, data, and event-driven architectures for enterprise objectives.
• Event-Driven Systems Design: design scalable event-driven architectures for distributed mission systems.
• Enterprise Integration: guide integration patterns for interoperability across mission apps.
• Front-End Development: build modern UIs using Angular.
• Back-End Development: create scalable services and APIs.
• Cross-Team Problem Solving: resolve complex software and architectural challenges.
• DevSecOps Collaboration: improve pipelines, automation, and observability.
• Engineering Excellence: promote code quality, testing, resiliency, and security.
• Technical Mentorship: mentor engineers through reviews and design discussions.
• Mission Collaboration: translate mission needs to technical solutions with stakeholders.
