Job summary

Nordstrom, Inc. is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Seattle to lead the Inventory Technology team. You will set technical direction for 150+ engineers, design complex event-driven microservices, and drive real-time inventory visibility across stores, warehouses, and RFID systems.

You will mentor engineers, apply agentic AI patterns, and collaborate with senior leaders to optimize architecture, security, and performance in a fast-paced retail environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency with Java and Python.
• Experience with AWS and/or GCP.
• Hands-on experience with agentic AI systems; AWS Bedrock AgentCore is a strong plus.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of CI/CD processes and tools and containerization.
• Architectural patterns for scalable systems.
• Experience with data science enabled solutions and big data.
• Experience applying Generative AI to automation and productivity.

Inventory is Nordstrom’s biggest investment and the productive use of it is critical to the company’s success.
