Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior backend engineer in Illinois to design, implement, and maintain high-performance, data-driven web applications using Django. The role requires deep expertise across full-stack technologies and strong leadership.

You will debug complex issues, guide architectural direction, and collaborate with UX and stakeholders to ensure scalable solutions. A 12+ year track record and US work authorization are essential.

Qualifications

BS in Computer Science or equivalent
Minimum 12 years of experience building high-performance, data-driven websites
Strong experience with MVC frameworks (Django preferred)
Proficiency in JavaScript and Python
Familiarity with HTML5, CSS3, Linux/UNIX, and related tooling
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Job description

• Design, implement, extend, and maintain web software functionality across applications and systems
• Debug complex operational and/or scaling issues
• Serve as a subject matter expert and provide guidance and technical direction across teams
• Define and refine engineering processes and procedures
• Promote and enforce standards for Cboe Design Systems
• Work with the Cboe UX team to implement effective designs
• Provide architecture and direction for code-base growth supporting additional asset classes or geographies
• Review requirements, rule filings, and trade desk announcements
• Participate in internal and industry-wide weekend testing as needed
• Support production systems and exchange applications outside normal work hours
• Provide significant input into project scheduling and lead projects to meet commitments
• Lead remediation efforts for major production support issues
• Communicate with stakeholders during incidents and contribute to incident reviews
• Communicate regularly with management, stakeholders, and technical colleagues
• Perform other related duties as required or requested

Requirements

BS in Computer Science or demonstrable equivalent knowledge
Minimum 12 years of experience developing high-performance, data-driven websites
Experience with MVC web frameworks (Django preferred)
Experience with JavaScript
Experience with Python or experience in another language with a strong desire to learn Python
Familiarity with modern web standards, including HTML5 and CSS3
Experience with Linux or UNIX-like systems
Experience with Apache, PostgreSQL, or ReactJS is a plus
Experience with Python unit testing and full-stack web testing is a plus
Strong ability to debug complex operational and/or scaling issues
Excellent understanding of UX principles
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future
Participation in weekend testing and support outside normal work hours as needed
