Job summary

RTX is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer – EO/IR or RF Signal Processing in Tucson, AZ. You will drive design, prototyping, integration, and performance assessment of signal processing algorithms used across our missile systems programs.

You will collaborate in lab and live-fire environments, mentor teammates, and contribute to all development phases from start-up to testing. Requires 8+ years in the field and an Interim Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in STEM with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Signal processing experience in EO/IR or RF domains.
• Proficient in C language or OO languages (C++, C#, Java).
• Experience with algorithm design, implementation, testing, and optimization.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Interim Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, prototype, integrate, and assess RF/EO-IR signal processing algorithms.
• Use simulations to evaluate signal processing performance against requirements.
• Test and validate sensor models in lab environments and during live-fire phases.
• Integrate algorithms into hardware across development lifecycle and support design reviews.

The Processing, Guidance and Controls (PG&C) Center within the Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities Discipline consists of Guidance, Navigation and Control; Signal Processing; and Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis disciplines for Effectors.

The Signal Processing team is seeking Principal Systems Engineer – EO/IR or RF Signal Processing engineers to join our PG&C Center in Tucson, AZ.

As the Principal Systems Engineer – EO/IR or RF Signal Processing, you will collaborate in the design, development, prototyping, integration, testing, and performance assessment of radio frequency (RF) or electro-optical / infrared (EO/IR) algorithms and models. Used across our products and new business initiatives, signal processing algorithms extract and exploit sensor signals to be used for calibrating and denoising raw sensor data; detecting, acquiring, tracking, and classifying objects of interest; and sensor fusion. This is an onsite position located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do

• You will act with advanced to expert knowledge of signal processing to support budget, schedule, development, execution, and completion of difficult and often complex missile systems program objectives.
• You will use and modify simulations for the design, development, prototyping, integration, testing, and performance assessment of signal processing algorithms and models.
• You will participate in engineering lab environments to test, verify, and validate sensor models and signal processing algorithm performance in accordance with requirements.
• You will focus on integration of algorithms into hardware and collaborate in all development phases from program start-up to live-fire testing, providing signal processing knowledge to resolve numerous and often undefined problems and issues in design reviews, peer reviews, and technical briefings to parties within and outside your own discipline.
• You will share your knowledge and mentor multiple team members.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
• Signal processing experience in the EO/IR or RF domains.
• Experience with the C programming language, or Object-Oriented Programming experience with the C++, C#, or Java programming languages.
• Experience with algorithm design, implementation, analysis, testing, and optimization.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Interim Secret U.S. government issued Security Clearance is required prior to start date with the ability to obtain special program access after start.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or Applied Math.
• Experience with missile systems applications supporting customer programs.
• Experience with version control tools such as Azure DevOps and Git.
• Subject Matter Expertise in multiple EO/IR or RF algorithms such as edge detection, segmentation, image restoration, adaptive processing, beam
