Northrop Grumman in Baltimore is seeking a Principal/Senior Principal Mission Engineering Systems Engineer to advance mission studies, system-of-systems trades, and performance analysis through credible modeling, simulation, and analysis processes.

Responsibilities include conducting analyses across offensive/defensive orders of battle, evaluating architectures, and delivering integrated demonstrations for long-term sustainment. A Secret clearance and 100% on-site work are required.

Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in STEM with several years of related experience.
  • Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship required.
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, and analysis tools such as MATLAB or STK.

Description

We are seeking a Principal / Senior Principal Mission Engineering Systems Engineer to join our Modeling, Simulation and Analysis Section. The role involves leveraging MS&A techniques to accelerate delivery of capabilities to customers through mission studies, system-of-system trades, and performance analysis using credible modeling, simulation, experimentation, and analysis processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis-of-alternatives and mission architecture trades across offensive and defensive orders of battle, formations, and equipment including laydowns, platforms, and loadouts of sensors, effectors, and weapons as well as communications, command, and control segments among combatants and the impacts of the tactics and strategies used.
  • Utilize MSE&A frameworks to evaluate Concepts of Employments, Concepts of Operations, and Design Reference Missions to affect system design and optimization.
  • Assess capabilities by linking system requirements to mission threads, proving operative interfaces and their connections that enable mission execution, verification/validation planning of system elements performing missions, and system integration functions during development.
  • Plan demonstration and delivery of mission effects, data, or capabilities during operations and provide long‑term sustainment and mission augmentation support over the life of systems.
  • Develop large‑scale data analytics, probabilities, and statistics, including the application of design‑of‑experiment techniques for the evaluation of system and mission performance.
  • Innovate to solve problems and identify improvements across MSE&A products.
  • Perform operational analysis and mission effectiveness analysis activities.
  • Develop new and/or integrate existing system simulation frameworks, performance models and algorithms, threat models and command and control models.
  • Model operational environments, perform trade studies via computer simulation and recommend alternative architectures.
  • Develop, integrate, and use advanced graphical user interfaces and visualization tools.
Basic Qualifications – Principal Mission Engineering Systems Engineer
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience, Master’s degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with 1 year of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Current/active U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Special Access Program access.
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, experimentation, and analysis for operations, including analytical modeling tools such as MATLAB, STK, or similar environments.
  • Experience with combat simulation environments such as AFSIM and/or Brawler.
  • Experience with programming languages like Python, C/C++, scripting in Linux/Windows environments, and expertise in statistics, design of experiments, and high-performance computing.
  • Experience with DoD testing and acquisition principles, including developmental testing, planning, and execution of weapon tests.
Basic Qualifications – Senior Principal Mission Engineering Systems Engineer
  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience, Master’s degree with 6 years of experience, or PhD with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Current/active U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Special Access Program access.
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, experimentation, and analysis for operations, including analytical modeling tools such as MATLAB, STK, or similar environments.
  • Experience with combat simulation environments such as AFSIM and/or Brawler.
  • Experience with programming languages like Python, C/C++, scripting in Linux/Windows environments, and expertise in statistics, design of experiments, and high-performance computing.
  • Experience with DoD testing and acquisition principles, including developmental testing, planning, and execution of weapon tests.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields.
  • Active Top Secret Clearance or higher.
  • Experience with JMP, R, or other domain‑specific environments supporting data exploration, visualization, and statistical analysis.
  • Domain experience in simulations of RF, EOIR, Communications, or related systems.
  • Understanding of the Systems Engineering and Integration & Test processes.
  • Experience with Agile and/or SAFe methodologies.

Salary Range

Primary Level: $108,800.00 – $163,200.00. Secondary Level: $135,800.00 – $203,600.00.
