Merck & Co. is seeking a Principal Scientist to provide strategic biomarker leadership across CVM and ID/Vaccines programs, guiding translational and clinical biomarker strategies from early to late development.

The role emphasizes decision-centric biomarker plans that integrate mechanism of action, biology, pharmacodynamics, patient heterogeneity, and precision medicine to inform go/no-go decisions and program direction. Hybrid work and cross-functional collaboration are offered.

Qualifications

Extensive experience in translational or clinical biomarker strategies.
Expertise in CVM, ID/Vaccines, immunology, or related fields.
Ability to translate hypotheses into biomarker strategies informing clinical decisions.
Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills.

Responsibilities

Develop and lead integrated biomarker strategies across programs.
Translate disease biology into translational hypotheses.
Define biomarker-informed development questions and go/no-go decisions.
Ensure scalable biomarker strategies with clear linkage to actions.
Serve as biomarker representative on cross-functional teams.
Partner with Discovery, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Data Science, and more.
Lead interpretation of biomarker data and translate into recommendations.
Identify disease heterogeneity and drivers of clinical outcomes.
For infectious diseases and vaccines, address host/pathogen biology and pharmacodynamics.
For CV/metabolic programs, address target engagement and pathway modulation.
