Descripción del empleo

At Air Products, we reimagine what's possible. By tapping into the motivation of our people and our collective experience, we create the ideas and innovations that drive us forward. When we come together - where every voice is heard and everyone knows they belong and matter - we create solutions that launch people into space, support lifesaving care in hospitals, and enable the construction of groundbreaking, world scale production facilities.

Reimagine What's Possible

We are seeking a Rotating Equipment Engineer to join our Americas Operations Machinery team. This role supports troubleshooting, maintenance, performance improvement, and reliability of rotating equipment across Air Products' U.S. operating facilities, with a primary focus on plants in the La Porte and Baytown, Texas area. The preferred working location is La Porte, TX, and we may also consider highly qualified candidates based near Houston, Port Arthur, or Beaumont, TX. Travel is required to support operations, with most travel consisting of daily driving to nearby plants or shops and overnight travel expected to be under 10%.

In this role, you will work with a wide variety of rotating machinery, including centrifugal, reciprocating, and screw compressors; steam and gas turbines; expanders; blowers; gearboxes; cooling towers; fin-fans; and pumps, including cryogenic pumps. You will support plants across Air Products' Americas operations network, which includes air separation, hydrogen, HyCO, and helium facilities serving customers across multiple industries.

This is an opportunity to build deep, marketable expertise in rotating equipment reliability within complex industrial gas operations. You will gain exposure to equipment, systems, operating conditions, and failure modes that are difficult to find in a single-plant or single-technology environment. For engineers who enjoy troubleshooting, field support, root cause analysis, and practical problem-solving, this role offers meaningful technical development and visibility across a broad operating network.

Do you have a passion for safety, solving technical problems, and improving equipment reliability? If you are a mechanical engineer who enjoys working with operations and maintenance teams, analyzing machinery performance, and helping plants run safely and reliably, we invite you to grow with us as we continue to build a sustainable tomorrow together.

What's In It for You:
  • Affordable Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance (day 1 of employment)
  • 401k with 100% vested company core and match
  • Paid Vacation, holidays + sick time
  • Paid Parental leave (Up to 8 weeks)
  • Backup Child and Adult Care benefit
  • Adoption assistance
  • Flexible spending accounts (medical, dependent daycare)
  • Health Savings Account
  • Life Insurance (AD&D- Paid for by Air Products), Supplemental AD&D
  • Legal Plan & Identity theft coverage
  • EAP (Employee Assistance Program)
  • Many more supplemental benefits available
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Support troubleshooting of rotating equipment issues and failures, including reviewing operating trends, helping define inspection scopes, contributing to repair plans, and supporting long-term reliability improvements.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA), failure analysis, and corrective action planning for machinery reliability events.
  • Provide technical support during overhauls, turnarounds, outages, inspections, and repair activities for rotating machinery.
  • Support reliability and efficiency improvement initiatives, including equipment performance monitoring, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and condition monitoring activities.
  • Work with operations, maintenance, engineering, and vendor teams to evaluate machinery performance and recommend improvements.
  • Support re-rating, optimization, and reliability upgrades of existing machinery to meet changing plant needs.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and reliability support for compressors, turbines, expanders, blowers, gearboxes, pumps, cryogenic pumps, cooling towers, fin-fans, and associated auxiliary systems.
  • Document findings, communicate recommendations clearly, and help translate technical issues into actionable plans for plant teams.
  • Build technical capability over time through field exposure, collaboration with experienced machinery engineers, and participation in reliability improvement work across the operating network.
  • Contribute to a safety-first culture by following site requirements, supporting safe work practices, and considering process safety and equipment reliability in technical recommendations.
Required Skills / Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of rotating equipment such as compressors, pumps, turbines, expanders, blowers, gearboxes, and associated systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment issues using operating data, inspection findings, maintenance history, and field observations.
  • Familiarity with vibration analysis, condition monitoring, failure analysis, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, or reliability engineering practices.
  • Ability to support root cause analysis (RCA) and contribute to practical corrective actions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in hands-on plant, shop, and field troubleshooting.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to operations, maintenance, and engineering stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, planning, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing in a team-based plant support environment.
  • Experience with hydrogen compression, HyCO, air separation units, process compressors, cryogenic pumps, API 610 pumps, API 617 compressors, rotor dynamics, PSM, FMEA, or reliability-centered maintenance is a plus.
  • TWIC card, PE license, CMRP, CRE, or vibration analysis certification is a plus.
Minimum Hiring Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting, troubleshooting, maintaining, designing, or improving rotating equipment in an industrial, manufacturing, refining, chemical, petrochemical, LNG, power generation, industrial gas, OEM, or related environment.
  • Experience with rotating equipment such as compressors, pumps, turbines, blowers, expanders, gearboxes, or auxiliary systems.
  • Ability to support plant, shop, and field-based work as needed.
Work Schedule & Environment
  • The preferred working location is La Porte, TX; however, we may consider allowing highly qualified candidates to be based out of Houston, Port Arthur, or Beaumont, TX.
  • Travel is required to support operations. Most travel will be daily driving to plants or shops within the La Porte and Baytown area, with overnight or week-long travel occurring approximately 2 to 3 times per year. Turnaround support could extend up to a few weeks but would not typically require overnight stay. Travel requiring overnight stay is expected to be under 10%.
  • Work is conducted in industrial plant environments, shops, and office settings.
  • Typical hours are Monday through Friday business hours, with flexibility based on time spent in offices, plants, and shops. Occasional after-hours support will be required.
  • This is a full-time, salaried position.
  • This role offers a path toward increased technical scope, broader plant responsibility, and opportunities to influence machinery reliability strategy across the Americas. For those interested, there may also be opportunities to pursue people leadership roles over time.
