Job summary

AbbVie Process Chemistry seeks a Principal Research Scientist II to lead drug substance process development and scale-up across small molecule programs. You will mentor staff, guide cross-functional teams, and contribute to regulatory documentation.

Key responsibilities include developing lab processes, translating them to scalable manufacturing, and partnering with organic chemists, analytical chemists, engineers, and program management to drive project strategies and cGMP compliant outcomes.

Qualifications

• PhD/MS/BS in Chemistry with 8+ years in pharma labs.
• Proven scientific leadership and cross-functional team experience.
• Experience with GMP drug substance manufacturing and process development.
• Ability to mentor staff and develop leaders.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead project teams for drug substance process development and characterization.
• Develop and characterize drug substance processes in lab and translate to scalable processes.
• Mentor staff and troubleshoot strategically with subordinates, peers and management.
• Author and review regulatory documents, laboratory data, memos and reports.
• Interact with organic chemists, analytical chemists, engineers, and program management.
• Identify ideas for continuous improvement and departmental initiatives.
• Set project strategies, define responsibilities and timelines, develop control strategies and robust cGMP processes.
