Job summary

Atom Computing is building quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms. We seek a Principal Software Engineer to design and build high-performance control systems for our next-generation quantum platforms.

This role spans embedded software, real-time systems, GPU/FPGA acceleration, and hardware orchestration, delivering deterministic, high-throughput control pipelines. Office-based in Boulder or Austin at least 3 days per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/EE or related field; advanced degree a plus.
• At least 8 years of postgraduate professional experience.
• Proficiency in C++, Python, Rust, or Go and CUDA tooling.
• Experience with real-time systems, embedded software, and hardware orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Build and test embedded firmware and software powering high-speed hardware systems.
• Design deterministic, low-latency software for quantum hardware and drivers.
• Evaluate real-time execution strategies across Linux and RTOS environments.
• Develop orchestration layers for GPUs, FPGAs, and custom electronics.
• Rapidly prototype using Rust, Python, C/C++, and CUDA; collaborate with cross-functional teams.
