Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector invites you to bring your pioneering spirit as a Principal Propulsion Engineer – Level 3 in Promontory, UT. You’ll lead conceptual rocket motor design, flight performance analysis, and system-level studies that shape the future of aerospace propulsion.

The role requires a STEM degree with relevant experience, the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance, and strong communication skills. A 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off applies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (STEM) with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience.
  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Working knowledge of solid rocket motor design and performance.
  • Working knowledge of launch vehicles and their designs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly present technical information.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

As a Principal Propulsion Engineer – Level 3 located in Promontory, UT, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.

The Principal Propulsion Engineer will our Conceptual Design and Flight Performance team. This position will be at our Propulsion Systems Division facility located in Promontory, UT with periodic assignments at our Bacchus (Magna), UT location.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Job Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for all aspects of conceptual rocket motor design, flight performance and system-level design and analysis, including
  • Develop new concepts for use in marketing, proposal, and programmatic efforts that help shape the future of our business
  • Present technical solutions and information to engineering organizations, internal and external customers, and to company leadership.
  • Design and optimize conceptual propulsion elements and vehicles
  • Perform trajectory analysis of launch vehicles, missiles, and sounding rockets
  • Solve a variety of challenging, often open-ended, aerospace engineering problems
  • Expected travel around 10%
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (STEM) with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 years of professional experience.

  • Working knowledge of solid rocket motor design and performance

  • Proven ability to be flexible in work assignments, which may vary frequently from tasks including analysis, design, project engineering, systems engineering, etc.

  • General computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in solid rocket motor design/analysis areas
  • Ability to understand motor system (big picture) while working on individual components (details)
  • Aerodynamics and/or loads & environments
  • Launch vehicle CONOPS
  • Active, current U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at the time of application.
  • Experience in optimization

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
