Job description

Getting paid is the single most important thing a business does — and there's not just one option, there are many depending on their needs: invoicing, card-on-file, in-person, recurring billing, and more, each with its own process. The needs also shift by segment — a solo SMB owner wants a payment link that just works; a mid‑market business is managing approval chains and reconciliation at real volume. Business owners shouldn't have to think about any of this. They just want it to be easy and to feel like one connected experience.

We're looking for a Principal Designer who can define what payments should feel like when AI does the hard work on a business owner's behalf — chasing the invoice, flagging the risk, reconciling the mismatch, deciding the next best action — so our customers get back the time and peace of mind to run their business instead of running after their money.

Responsibilities
Strategic Design Leadership
  • Define and drive the design vision for the highest-priority Payments and Invoicing initiatives
  • Guide and influence strategic direction across partner teams; align with QuickBooks' and Intuit's overall strategy and business goals
  • Raise the bar for design craft and product standards, promoting consistency and excellence within Payments and Invoicing
  • Work with design and product leaders to shape the future of how customers get paid across QuickBooks and Intuit's broader ecosystem
Design Execution and Innovation
  • Lead design for complex, cross-functional efforts, from concept to launch
  • Use AI tools to build evocative prototypes; establish and evolve design patterns and specifications based on solid design rationale to drive clarity and cohesion within customer experiences
  • Explore and implement innovative solutions through emerging native AI patterns and capabilities
Storytelling and Communication
  • Articulate design concepts and rationale through compelling presentations and narratives
  • Influence and inspire cross-functional teams and leadership through effective storytelling
  • Facilitate design shares, workshops, and critiques to drive alignment across leadership as well as both design and product teams
Mentorship and Influence
  • Mentor and guide Staff and Senior designers, fostering their professional growth
  • Establish yourself as a thought leader within the design community, both internally and externally
  • Drive adoption of best practices and new design patterns

Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience in product design, preferably in a large-scale products, Payments experience is also a bonus
  • Exceptional storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels
  • Expert in design systems, interaction design, and visual craft
  • Proven track record of leading and delivering impactful design solutions across large and complex products and platforms
  • Ability to convey holistic ideas and concepts through storyboarding, wireframing, and prototyping
  • A portfolio that demonstrates a strong understanding of user-centered design principles and a mastery of craft
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with and influence other designers, product management, marketing, and engineering leaders to drive outcomes
  • Exceptional ability to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to inform design decisions, identify opportunities, and measure outcomes
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to lead and inspire teams across functions
