As an organization, we deliver for our customers by living our values. We operate from a place of humility, take ownership of problems and successes, approach challenges with a growth mindset, and put our customers at the center of everything we do.

About the Role

Amplitude is looking for an exceptional Principal Product Designer to lead efforts across Wave, the company's proactive product agent that helps teams build self-improving products. Wave continuously analyzes a product’s behavioral data and code to surface signals, turns them into opportunities that you or your agents can approve and ship, then tracks the resulting outcomes, so the product gets smarter with every cycle. We're taking the next step in this journey by giving teams an agent that senses what's worth building, orchestrates the work, and proves whether it worked.

Our work ranges from iterating to completely transforming our core user experience across our entire stack to improve usage and drive value. This is an early product with a lot of room for impact.

This is a role for a bold systems thinker. Someone who thrives at the intersection of high craft, and pushing the boundaries of the latest technology – all while frequently shipping and learning from customers.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead end-to-end design efforts across ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives—from problem framing to polished execution.
  • Define and drive the design strategy for Wave's core experiences (the opportunity feed, signal review and evidence, spec and plan creation, and outcome tracking) that help teams build self-improving products.
  • Collaborate deeply with leadership across Product, Engineering, and Research to shape product direction, resolve complexity, and influence priorities. Regularly present to executive leadership.
  • Engage with customers to develop conviction in, and iterate on, the design direction.
  • Partner with Product Marketing and other stakeholders to drive successful go-to-market launches.
  • Drive alignment across teams through compelling storytelling, facilitation, and research synthesis that surfaces key insights and opportunities.
  • Mentor and guide other designers, growing craft, strategic thinking, and business influence across the org.
  • Deliver high-quality user experiences while having the option to ship front-end code directly to product.
  • Provide design support and expertise for other product areas as needed.
What You’ll Bring
  • 8+ years of product design experience
  • A proven ability to drive clarity in ambiguous problem spaces, align cross-functional partners, and deliver elegant solutions to technical and human problems.
  • A strategic, visionary perspective with a history of driving innovative product design forward.
  • A builder's mindset—balancing high standards for design craft with high-velocity production shipping.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating experience leading end-to-end design for complex or ambiguous products, including platforms or systems work.
  • Experience designing and shipping features powered by AI.
  • A bias for action and iteration—you move quickly to learn, incorporate feedback from many perspectives, and ship often to drive impact.
  • Clear, persuasive communication and storytelling skills.
  • A track record of mentoring designers, driving best practices, and contributing to design culture.
What the company Brings You
  • An ahead-of-the-curve AI-empowered company. People across all disciplines regularly ship code. Our designers ship hundreds of PRs each month, build new skills, and prototype directly off the codebase. Our design team hosted our first Design x AI night in September.
  • An executive team that’s not afraid to move fast. This kind of velocity is hard to find in a public company.
  • Designers have a lot of ownership, our opinions are highly respected, and you get a say in our product strategy. Many of our designers meet with our exec team regularly.
Who you'll work with

Some of the builders you’ll work closely with include Jacob (Principal Product Manager), Meredith (Lead Designer), Gab (Chief Product Officer), Fayyaz (Principal Designer), Anita (Sr. Principal Designer), and Jingshu (Sr. Principal Designer).

And of course you'll also collaborate with an incredible team of 12+ multi-talented designers across our broader design org and many many other talented PMs and Engineers all shaping what's next in our space.

What we offer

We care about the well-being of our team and offer competitive pay and benefits packages that reflect our commitment to the health and well-being of our Ampliteers. Benefits include:

  • Salary range for this role is $237,000 to $398,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission, based on location).
