Job summary

Avalere Health is seeking a Principal focused on Medicare, Medicaid and drug pricing policy. You will generate strategic recommendations, supervise multi-engagement work, and mentor staff while collaborating with clients across health sectors.

You will shape project scope, lead teams, and drive business development in a fast-paced advisory environment, contributing to policy impact for healthcare stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Significant experience analyzing policy proposals, legislation, and/or regulation and conveying findings to clients and the public.
• Deep knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid policy, including Medicare Part D, the Inflation Reduction Act, and other key drug pricing reform policies.
• Prior project management experience.
• Strong communication skills to concisely explain complex concepts to executives within and outside of the firm.
• Ability to work in a team environment with collaboration and positive client relationships.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint, Excel, Teams and Word.

Responsibilities

• Generate both strategic and tactical recommendations for clients that are responsive to their policy and business needs.
• Oversee multiple complex engagements at a time from proposal development through delivery. Partner with clients on shaping the scope of projects, assemble cross-functional teams, and oversee the team from project initiation through to client delivery with minimal oversight.
• Meaningfully contribute to practice goal achievement around sales, revenue, and project management.
• Create and execute on business development plans.
• Participate in strategic and planning discussions across the firm to develop new business.
• Supervise, train and mentor staff members within the practice and across the firm.
• Generate thought leadership that raises the profile of your expertise and the practice’s capabilities.

About the role

Avalere’s policy practice is seeking a Principal with a focus primarily on Medicare, Medicaid anddrug pricing policy. We are seeking a policy professional who loves to generate creativesolutions to complex problems, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is energized by working collaboratively with highly motivated and knowledgeable colleagues.

The policy practice focuses on a range of issues including ongoing federal and state discussionaround drug pricing policy; Medicare Advantage and Part D policy and payment; evolvingbenefit designs and coverage in public and private payers; Medicaid; and other state healthpolicies. We rely on deep subject matter expertise and understanding of the business issues facing our clients to assess how this changing policy landscape impacts the pharmaceuticalindustry, managed care plans, providers, pharmacies, PBMs, and consumers. We provideanalytic support and advisory services, including legislative strategy, regulatory analysis, andquantitative modeling of proposed and enacted policies to a wide range of clients across the healthcare industry.

Serve as a key subject matter expert on Medicare, Medicaid and drug pricing policy issuesimpacting the pharmaceutical/ biotech, health insurance, pharmacy, and PBM industries.

Education Requirements

• A degree in health policy, public policy, healthcare management, public health, publicadministration, economics, business administration, or a relevant discipline.

Skill Requirements

• Significant experience analyzing policy proposals, legislation, and/or regulation andconveying findings to clients and the public.
• Sophisticated understanding of the policy issues impacting the healthcare sector, businessdynamics in the marketplace, and how the interplay between federal and state policy impactsthe industry.
• Experience overseeing and supervising work of staff members.
• Proven situational leadership skills and the ability to motivate and generate enthusiasm with individuals across all levels of the organization.

Experience Requirements

• 10 + years of relevant work experience, which could include employment by a biotech orhealth insurance company, relevant trade group, advocacy organization, Capitol Hill, theexecutive branch, or a professional advisory services firm.
• Prior experience in the financial services industry or a professional services firm thinking critically about and/or working on behalf of the healthcare industry is an appropriate substitutefor direct industry experience.
• Deep knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid policy, including Medicare Part D, the InflationReduction Act, and other key drug pricing reform policies
• Prior project management experience.
• Solid communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to concisely explaincomplicated concepts to executives within and outside of the firm.
