Job description

Are you passionate about shaping the future of technology products that reach millions of customers? Do you thrive when tackling ambiguous, high-impact challenges that require both strategic vision and technical depth? As a Principal Product Manager, Technical at Amazon, you will define and drive the long-term product strategy for your area of responsibility, translating complex customer needs into clear roadmaps that deliver meaningful outcomes. Your work will span multiple teams and organizations, requiring you to build alignment, make high-stakes decisions, and champion exceptional customer experiences. This is a role for a seasoned product leader who combines deep technical understanding with strong business judgment - someone who can reason from first principles, challenge assumptions, and identify bold opportunities that create lasting value for customers and the business alike.

Key job responsibilities
  • Define and own a multi-year product vision and strategic roadmap, setting clear tenets and frameworks that guide teams through complex trade-offs and drive organizational alignment across engineering, design, science, marketing, and business stakeholders.
  • Evaluate technical proposals and architecture decisions for scalability, performance, and long-term flexibility, partnering closely with engineering leadership to ensure the right trade-offs are made and that today's choices do not constrain tomorrow's strategic options.
  • Lead cross-organizational initiatives by influencing without authority, building consensus among senior leaders with differing priorities, and driving joint launches or strategic partnerships that deliver significant customer and business impact.
  • Establish metrics frameworks that distinguish between output and outcome metrics, leverage data analysis and experimentation strategies to inform roadmap investments, and apply generative AI capabilities to accelerate insight generation and product development cycles.
  • Serve as the voice of the customer by synthesizing requirements from broad customer segments and use cases, driving strategic customer engagements, and ensuring that product decisions are grounded in deep customer knowledge and validated through research and testing.
A day in the life

You might start your morning reviewing usage data and experiment results to refine an upcoming product decision, then shift into a working session with engineering and design partners to evaluate architecture trade-offs for a major platform initiative. After lunch, you could be presenting a strategic narrative to senior leadership, building alignment on a bold investment proposal. Later, you may connect with cross-functional partners in marketing or business development to shape a go-to-market approach, and close the day mentoring a product manager on your team or contributing to a community review.
