Enel North America, Inc. is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead HV design, commissioning, and operational support for renewables across the USA and Canada. You will drive root-cause analyses, develop RFP specs, mentor the O&M team, and ensure compliance with NERC standards.

The role requires deep HV knowledge, project leadership, and the ability to work across a matrix organization with global teams. Hybrid work arrangement and travel 30% are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (master’s preferred).
• 13+ years of experience in electrical power systems engineering.
• Deep knowledge of interconnection requirements for renewables and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience in commissioning, operation, and maintenance of MV/HV systems.
• Strong writing and verbal communication skills.

In support and cooperation with other internal departments, service providers and equipment manufacturers, the role will ensure technical support to electrical, power systems and grid interconnection topics, for renewable plants under execution, operation as well as M&A acquisitions. They are also responsible for a variety of activities related to ENEL HV assets, including integration of new assets, Troubleshooting and repair of faults NERC Compliance activities and equipment monitoring.What you will doResponsibilities, include, but not limited to:Develop, create and update on a regular basis the technical specifications to be used for any RFPs to be issued by the Organization - related to own field of expertise.Elaborate reports, analysis and subject matter expert analysis for market and NERC compliance related activities, request for information and submissions.Mentor, coach and support other O&M team members and be the echelon for electrical engineering matters for the USA and Canada perimeter.Lead the root cause analysis of high voltage electrical asset failures.Consult manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documents to Operate and Maintain MV/HV systems and to determine optimum functioning.Analyze fault and test data to diagnose/troubleshoot any failures/malfunctions, to direct repairs, to determine performance characteristics of systems, or to evaluate effects of system modifications.Review test reports maintenance reports and other information to identify deficiencies and develop remediation plans to correct before failureWrite Scopes of Work, specifications, and other technical documentation related to upgrades, repairs, or related to our high voltage assetsBe familiar with troubleshooting/ diagnosis/repair of Transmission/Distribution systems and components Overhead and Underground (cables/terminations/junction boxes, etc.)Be familiar with Predictive and Preventative maintenance practices as implemented in the Maintenance Reliability Program.Be proficient with Substation relay and control system operations and maintenance.Be familiar with site inventories of spare parts for all MV/HV equipment, and recommending spare parts for BOP applications for substations, collector systems and transmission lines.Maintain a current understanding of EGPNA and renewable generation technology and professional development by participating in various training opportunities and reading industry documents publicationsParticipate in compliance activities related to High Voltage EquipmentSupervise subcontractors for the performance of maintenance of MV/HV Electrical Assets (OH and UG collection systems, Transmission systems, substations).Work with Operations Managers, Maintenance Manager, and Planners to develop and manage the implementation of a strategy for maintenance activities. This may include supervising contracts with third parties, major repairs, and capital improvements to ensure maximum availability, production, and profitability.Work with the Electrical Maintenance Manager to assist in establishing a long-range maintenance plan for all Wind sites.Help identify with the Electrical Maintenance Manager and Technical Support Manager methods to increase plant efficiency/reliability and recommend and implement capital improvement projects to help increase project effectiveness and proficiency.What you will bringBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, master’s degree is preferred.PE certification is preferred.12+ years of experience in engineering of electrical power systems related fields.7+ years of experience in power systems design.Deep knowledge of the electricity sector and interconnection requirements of renewables plants.Knowledge of regulatory and compliance framework pertaining power generation plants.Experience in commissioning and operations in power systems.Knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance related to LV, MV and HV systems.Knowledge of informatics: AutoCAD, Power system simulations software (PSSE, DigSILENT, PSCAD, NEPLAN, etc.).Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.Excellent written and verbal communication.Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively support and work well with people from different departments and industry backgrounds.Ability to work within a global framework and a matrix organization.Innovation and Sustainable thinking.Ability to work in autonomy for complex tasks and in multiple projects under pressure.Advanced time management and planning skills with ability to review, compile and track project documentation.30% travel required (international and domestic)A valid driver’s license operable in all 50 states and Canada.Why join us?The pay range for this position is $157,000-$197,000 annually.
