Leidos in Bethesda, MD seeks a Principal Network Engineer to maintain enterprise network infrastructure across on‑premises and cloud environments, ensuring configuration, availability, performance, capacity, and timely patch management.

You will lead architecture, design, installation, and support of networks and related hardware, monitor obsolescence, and drive upgrades, with emphasis on Cisco/Nexus, IP routing, ITIL/SAFe practices. A TS/SCI with polygraph is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years or Master’s with 10+ years of experience in related field.
• Active TS/SCI with Polygraph is required.
• Proven technical/management leadership on major tasks and objectives.
• Master level experience with Cisco/Nexus networking hardware and design.
• Expert IP routing and connection services experience; ITIL and SAFe knowledge.
• Ability to assess hardware/software from vendors with documented SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, install, configure, administer, support, and maintain enterprise networks.
• Update technologies, tune performance, implement critical patches.
• Perform risk assessments and ensure SLA-aligned network services.
• Ensure continuity of operations including disaster recovery.

Job Description

The Principal Network Engineer maintains enterprise network infrastructure to ensure proper configuration, availability, performance, capacity, and maintenance (including application of the latest patches and upgrades). They will also monitor technology obsolescence, manage upgrades, and evaluate alternatives across on-premises and cloud IT infrastructures, both virtual and physical.

Primary Responsibilities

• Responsible for architecture, design, installation, configuration, administration, support, and maintenance of networks, including associated hardware and cloud resources.
• Update to new technologies, tuning performance, and prioritizing the implementation of critical system patches.
• Performs risk assessment, risk mitigation analysis, vendor trade studies, and appropriate documentation to ensure network services are available according to established Service Level Agreements (SLA).
• Ensures continuity of operations including disaster recovery
• Monitors operations and collects and evaluates metrics to manage network services and for inclusion into project KPIs and Service Level Agreements (SLA).

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s with 12 or more years of prior relevant experience or a Masters with 10 or more years of prior relevant experience.Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
• Must have an active TS/SCI with a Polygraph, to be considered.
• Experience providing technical/management leadership on major tasks or technology assignments; and establishing goals and plans that meet project objectives; with domain and expert technical knowledge.
• Master level experience with Cisco and Nexus Architecture with experience with designing, configuring, and troubleshooting enterprise-level Cisco/Nexus networking hardware (9K/7K/5K/2K).
• Expert experience with IP, Routing and Connection services as well as working on ITIL and SAFe Agile Frameworks.
• Ability to analyze available hardware and software from external vendors and make recommendations for purchase and installation, along with documented experience creating maintaining and implanting detailed documentation for standard systems operating procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience architecting and securing hybrid or multi-cloud environments
• Experience developing DevOps infrastructure using GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible and related tools
