Job summary

Milwaukee Tool is seeking a Principal Motor Control Engineer to join our electrification effort and advance control algorithms for battery systems and power tools. You’ll lead modeling, simulation, and code-generation activities, collaborating with hardware, firmware, and software teams to push the boundaries of control technology.

You will mentor engineers, drive best practices, and ensure designs scale to mass production while maintaining rigorous validation using MATLAB/Simulink, Stateflow,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of model-based control development using MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink model-based design, code generation and automated testing.
  • Extensive knowledge of closed-loop control theory, vector control and PWM techniques.
  • Ability to read power electronics schematics and component data sheets.
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time (domestic and international).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, independent judgement, and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, model, simulate, and implement advanced control algorithms.
  • Develop, analyze, maintain and document control system architecture.
  • Collaborate with Hardware and Firmware Engineers to optimize and implement next-generation control algorithms.
  • Peer review software and controls designs/source code.
  • Lead and mentor the team in engineering best practices including task management and root cause analysis.
  • Innovate control solutions to meet business needs.
  • Track projects to ensure adherence to schedule and Milwaukee Tool processes.
  • Develop agendas for, facilitate, and document technical meetings and presentations.
  • Apply manufacturing mindset to designs for mass production.
  • Acquire knowledge and maintain an understanding of Milwaukee Tool’s development and manufacturing processes.

To learn more about our story click HERE .The Principal Motor Control Engineer will collaborate with various Engineering teams to design, model, simulate, and implement innovative control algorithms for our products. You will join a team of passionate control, electronic, firmware and system engineers to deliver the next breakthroughs in battery systems and power tool technology.You’ll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:Executing a lead role for the design, model, simulate, and implement advance control algorithms.Develop, analyze, maintain and document control system architecture.Use modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink and Stateflow.Collaborate with Hardware and Firmware Engineers to optimize and implement next-generation control algorithms.Peer review software and controls designs/source code.Lead and mentor the team in engineering best practices including task management, root cause analysis, and control algorithm development.Innovate control solutions to meet the needs of the business.Use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, and HIL test equipment to validate control algorithms.Track projects to ensure adherence to schedule and Milwaukee Tool’s processes.Schedule, develop agendas for, facilitate, and document technical meetings and formal presentations.Develop and apply manufacturing mindset to designs to effectively and efficiently mass produce power tools.Acquire knowledge and maintain an understanding of Milwaukee Tool’s development and manufacturing processes.What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.10+ years of experience in the field of model-based control development utilizing design tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.10+ years of Matlab/Simulink model-based design code generation and automated testing.Extensive knowledge of closed loop control theory, vector control and pulse width modulation techniques.Extensive knowledge of control loop tuning and stability analysis.Ability to read power electronics schematics and component data sheets.Excellent problem-solving skills exercises independent judgement and works well under pressure in a dynamic environment.Self-motivated, organized, efficient, process oriented with a strong work ethic.Ability to travel 10% of the time (domestic and international).Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.Experience developing plant models to simulate physical systems.Experience with single phase and/or three phase power applications.Experience with single phase and/or three phase motor control applications.Knowledge of Advanced control systems, Model Predictive Control.Experience with auto code generation.Working knowledge of with battery, drive, and motor systems.Experience leading technical teams.We provide these great perks and benefits:Robust health, dental and vision insurance plans.Generous 401 (K) savings plan.Education assistance.On-site wellness, fitness center, food, and coffee service.And many more, check out our benefits site HERE .Milwaukee Tool is an equal opportunity employer.
