Cadent, powered by Syneos Health, is seeking a Principal Medical Writer to lead development of high-quality, strategic publications aligned with clients' science and business goals. You will ensure accuracy, credibility, and quality of manuscripts, literature reviews, abstracts, posters, and slides under author direction.

Qualifications

  • Advanced health sciences degree (PhD/MD/PharmD or equivalent).
  • 4–6 years of professional medical communications experience.
  • CMPP certification is a plus but not required.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint; PubMed/EMBASE experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client-facing skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication.

The Principal Medical Writer will ensure the strategic alignment, accuracy, credibility, and quality of the manuscripts, literature reviews, abstracts, posters, slide decks, and other written pieces you develop with author direction.

In this role, you will take a leading role in development of high-quality and strategic peer-reviewed publications that deliver on our clients’ science and business strategy. The Principal Medical Writer will ensure the strategic alignment, accuracy, credibility, and quality of the manuscripts, literature reviews, abstracts, posters, slide decks, and other written pieces you develop with author direction.

Responsibilities

A highly autonomous writer who delivers high-quality medical communications while contributing to quality leadership, mentorship, and streamlined project delivery across assigned accounts.

  • Independently develop innovative and creative narratives for client medical communication needs, customized for their product, situational landscape, and audience(s) of interest, including slides, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, or other digital and print content forms
  • Interpret complex scientific and medical data for different audiences, including trial protocols, data presentations, regulatory documentation, and statistical analysis methods
  • Synthesize, prioritize, and visualize data effectively when developing medical communication assets
  • Apply critical analysis with strong attention to detail and good proofreading skills, including review of drafts created by junior medical writers
  • Work with clients, other team members, and external stakeholders to kick off and determine outline for projects
  • Collaborate with creative studio, production, editorial, and account management teams for project delivery
  • Ensure that all author and stakeholder feedback is accurately and appropriately incorporated
  • Ensure accuracy and rigor, including provision of a full reference pack and annotations for fact checking
  • Prepare materials for legal and regulatory review as necessary
  • Understand and champion scientific and communication strategies for 1 or more clients
  • Serve as subject matter expert in 2 to 4 disease states
  • Actively participate in internal and external meetings representing our work to clients, authors, and other external stakeholders
  • Ensure adherence to internal or client-directed specifications and templates for deliverables
  • Train new joiners and fellow colleagues as and when required
  • Work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team-oriented environment, managing multiple projects in support of 1 or more clients at any given time
  • Proactively manage timelines to ensure on-time project completion
  • Raise issues appropriately and propose solutions
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned, including participation in advisory boards, development of slides for the meeting and/or summaries, or travel to scientific meetings
Qualifications
  • PhD, MD, PharmD, M. Pharm, MBBS, M. Science or other advanced professional degree in the health sciences
  • 4 to 6 years of professional medical communications experience
  • Knowledge of good publication practice guidelines; ISMPP CMPP certification a plus but not required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), medical literature databases (PubMed and/or EMBASE), referencing and scientific visualization software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with account teams, other writers, editors, physicians, and clients
  • Ability to communicate medical/technical information to a wide variety of audiences and formats
  • Efficiently prioritize multiple tasks and provide effective direction to others; quickly evaluate the resources necessary to accomplish a goal and put those into action
  • Strong written and verbal fluency in English
