Job summary

CHAOS Industries is seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of advanced launcher systems. You will own end-to-end mechanical design from concept through production and sustainment for launcher systems on mobile ground and maritime platforms.

The role requires strong hands-on CAD, ruggedized hardware design, and ability to lead cross-disciplinary teams. On-site in Hawthorne, CA with competitive compensation and growth potential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years in mechanical design and integration for aerospace/defense.
• Experience designing missile launcher systems or similar hardware.
• Strong structural design and ruggedized hardware background.
• Experience with electro-mechanical interfaces and connectors.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-810 and safety interlocks.
• Proficiency with CAD tools and large assemblies.
• Ability to lead technical decisions across programs.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical architecture and launcher integration across platforms.
• Define interfaces between missile, canister, and platform.
• Develop protection against blast, plume, and thermal effects.
• Ensure safety interlocks and launch sequencing compliance.
• Design mechanical safing features and hazard analyses.
• Lead deployment, retention, and release mechanisms.
• Interface with customers, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
• Lead system integration on mobile ground and maritime platforms.
