We are working with a growing medical technology company that is developing complex robotic and electromechanical equipment. They are looking for a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to work closely with R&D and help take new products from early design through first-in-human builds and into early production.
This is a hands‑on, highly technical role. You will help engineers design products that can actually be manufactured, assembled, tested, serviced, and eventually produced at scale. You will also help build the manufacturing process from the ground up, troubleshoot prototype systems, improve designs, manage manufacturing risks, and keep an eye on cost.
What You’ll Do
- Work directly with R&D on design for manufacturing, assembly, testing, and serviceability
- Help develop manufacturing processes and production strategies from the ground up
- Support prototype and engineering builds, including hands‑on assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and process improvements
- Develop assembly processes, work instructions, manufacturing documentation, and early production methods
- Develop manufacturing and test strategies for complex electromechanical systems
- Identify opportunities to reduce cost of goods (COGS) while maintaining product performance and quality
- Troubleshoot system‑level issues involving mechanical, electrical, software, and controls interfaces
- Identify manufacturing and supply chain risks, including long‑lead components and supplier readiness
- Work with suppliers to support early builds and manufacturing readiness
- Partner with Quality to ensure appropriate design controls and documentation
- Help establish a scalable long‑term manufacturing strategy
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience
- Medical device manufacturing experience in a regulated environment
- Experience with complex electromechanical products, robotics, capital equipment, or similar systems
- Strong experience with DFM, DFA, DFT, and design for serviceability
- Hands‑on experience supporting early‑stage product builds and system integration
- Experience taking products from prototype/development into manufacturing
- Ability to troubleshoot complex problems across mechanical, electrical, software, and system interfaces
- Experience developing manufacturing processes, work instructions, and early test methods
- Experience using statistical/data analysis tools such as Minitab, JMP, or similar
- Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks for DFM, layouts, or fixture design
- Experience working with design controls, DMR/DHR, traceability, or similar documentation in a regulated environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, and other engineering teams
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change
Preferred Experience
- Advanced engineering degree
- Experience taking a medical device from concept through First-in-Human (FIH) and early production
- Robotics, motion systems, automation, or complex capital equipment experience
- Test method development and validation (TMD/TMV)
- Supplier development and early‑stage sourcing
This position is a combination of office, engineering lab, and hands‑on build environments. You will spend time working directly with engineering teams during builds, integration, testing, and troubleshooting. This is an opportunity to have a direct impact on how a complex robotic medical device is designed and ultimately manufactured. You'll have a seat at the table with R&D and will help shape the product and manufacturing process rather than simply supporting an established production line.
