Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal Guidance Navigation and Control Engineer to join our San Diego team. You will design, develop, implement, verify, and test algorithms and software for aircraft GNC, and contribute to simulation tools and data processing.

Qualifications include BS with 5 years (MS with 3, PhD with 1) in STEM, ability to obtain Secret clearance and SAP, and experience with control law development for aerospace systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in STEM with 5 years of related engineering experience.
  • Master of Science in STEM with 3 years of related engineering experience.
  • PhD in STEM with 1 year of related engineering experience.
  • Ability to obtain a US Government Secret clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP). This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, implements, verifies, and tests algorithms and software and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control of aircraft
  • Statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality.
  • Formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation, or orbit.
  • Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control laws and hardware and software requirements for aircraft.

Basic Qualifications for Principal GNC Engineer
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline with 5 years of related engineering experience
  • Master of Science degree in a relevant STEM discipline with 3 years of related engineering experience
  • PhD in a relevant STEM discipline with 1 year of related engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain a US Government Secret clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP). This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications for both levels
  • Active US Government Secret clearance
Salary & Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

  • Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
  • Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
  • Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
  • In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
