Location: Eagan, MN – Hybrid, 3 days onsite per week

Conversion Salary: $170,000–$200,000 + 15% annual bonus

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Enterprise Architect to help define and advance the organization's enterprise technology strategy, architecture, and future-state roadmap.

This role has a significant focus on enterprise data architecture. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience designing and modernizing enterprise data platforms, with AWS and Databricks serving as key technologies. You will help establish target-state architectures, guide major technology investments, and ensure the right architectural decisions are made across data, cloud, applications, integrations, and emerging AI capabilities.

You will operate as a senior technical advisor across the organization, partnering with executives, architects, engineers, product teams, security, data, and business leaders.

Key Responsibilities

• Define target-state architecture and roadmaps for enterprise data platforms, including data storage, processing, integration, access, and management.
• Provide architectural leadership for a modern data ecosystem centered around AWS and Databricks.
• Guide modernization efforts as the organization transitions away from legacy technologies and toward scalable cloud-based platforms.
• Establish architectural patterns for technologies including Databricks/Spark, AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, and related cloud services.
• Evaluate technology decisions, dependencies, tradeoffs, and long-term impacts across the enterprise.
• Promote reuse, simplification, standardization, componentization, and reduction of technical debt.

Enterprise Strategy & Architecture

• Align business and technology strategies with enterprise objectives and strategic priorities.
• Define and communicate enterprise technology vision, architecture strategy, and future-state roadmaps.
• Establish enterprise architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, and reusable patterns.
• Lead architecture reviews and provide oversight for strategic initiatives and major technology investments.
• Partner with senior leaders to identify opportunities where technology can improve business outcomes, operational efficiency, and customer/member experiences.
• Serve as a strategic technology advisor for enterprise initiatives and modernization programs.

AI & Emerging Technology

• Incorporate artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, intelligent automation, and advanced analytics into enterprise architecture strategies.
• Define architectural patterns and approaches for introducing AI capabilities into enterprise systems and data platforms.
• Help determine appropriate integration points and architectural "on-ramps and off-ramps" for AI capabilities.
• Establish scalable and responsible architectural patterns for generative AI, agentic AI, predictive analytics, and future AI technologies.
• Partner with engineering, data, security, legal, compliance, risk, and business teams to support enterprise AI initiatives.
• Help mature the organization's Enterprise Architecture practice, operating model, and decision-making frameworks.
• Develop architecture roadmaps and transition plans.
• Mentor architects, engineers, and technical leaders.
• Build strong partnerships across business units, technology teams, vendors, and strategic partners.
• Lead through influence within a complex, matrixed organization.
• Communicate complex architectural concepts, decisions, risks, and tradeoffs to both technical and executive audiences.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8+ years of progressive technology experience.
• 4+ years of enterprise, solution, data, platform, cloud, application, infrastructure, or domain architecture experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in enterprise data and data platform architecture.
• Experience architecting solutions using AWS and Databricks.
• Experience defining enterprise architecture strategies, target-state architectures, technology roadmaps, and reference architectures.
• Ability to evaluate complex technology environments and guide enterprise-scale modernization efforts.
• Experience influencing senior technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Databricks/Spark, AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, and modern cloud data architectures.
• Experience modernizing or migrating away from legacy data platforms and technologies.
• Healthcare or health insurance technology experience.
• Understanding of healthcare data and business domains such as health plan operations, claims/billing, enrollment, provider, or member systems.
• Experience incorporating AI, machine learning, generative AI, or agentic AI into enterprise architecture.
• Experience defining component-based and reusable architecture patterns.
• Experience working across applications, integrations, data, cloud, infrastructure, security, analytics, and automation.

What We're Looking For

The strongest candidate will combine deep data architecture expertise with broad enterprise architecture capabilities. We are particularly interested in architects who understand how to design and modernize enterprise-scale data platforms using AWS and Databricks and can connect those technical decisions to broader business and technology strategy.

Healthcare data experience is highly valued, particularly within health insurance or payer environments. This is a highly influential architecture role requiring someone who can move comfortably between detailed technical discussions and strategic conversations with senior leadership.
