Job summary

IBM Software is seeking a Principal Engineer to shape the long-term architecture, scalability, and reliability of IBM's governance and metadata systems within the Data Streaming Platform. You will own company-level domains and influence engineering practices and product strategy while delivering resilient, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Deep Expertise: leading architecture and delivery of large-scale distributed systems with company-level impact.
• Distributed Systems Mastery: fault tolerance, consistency, scalability, and cloud-native platforms.
• Streaming Architecture Fluency: working depth with streaming or event-driven architectures and related domains.
• Strategic Influence: navigate ambiguity, reduce systemic complexity, anticipate industry trends.
• Leadership Presence: influence executives and stakeholders across teams.
• Execution: move from vision to detailed implementation with shipped outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive company-level technical strategy for governance systems.
• Architect and evolve high-performance metadata management systems for low-latency lookups and strong consistency.
• Design and evolve data protection capabilities across the platform.
• Build and maintain highly available, multi-tenant infrastructure for governance services.
• Establish and evangelize engineering standards, architectural patterns, and technical frameworks.
• Partner with executives, product management, and engineering leaders to align technical vision with business objectives.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of engineering excellence.
• Contribute to open-source projects and represent IBM externally through talks and thought leadership.
