Job summary

Cboe seeks a Principal Software Engineer for Regulatory Technology to lead architecture, data pipelines, and ML-enabled surveillance across US markets. You will mentor teams, design scalable datasets, and drive resilience and observability in mission-critical systems.

The role requires ten years of data engineering experience, Python/Java expertise, Snowflake/SQL proficiency, and prior capital markets exposure. Visa sponsorship is not offered.

Qualifications

• Ten years of hands-on experience building new production grade data sets and data analytics systems.
• Five years of experience working in capital markets trading environment.
• Hands on experience using Python and Java as primary programming languages.
• Hands‑on experience using Snowflake and SQL as an application developer and data analyst.
• Able to provide constructive and actionable feedback to engineers on their work product.
• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience in presenting to and getting buy in from enterprise audience.
• Hands‑on development experience in AWS cloud using big data analytics such as Amazon EMR is a nice to have, can be substituted with equivalent experience on other popular cloud environments.
• Prior experience using agile methodologies and test‑driven development is highly desired.
• Exchange technology or market regulatory technology experience will be a huge plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a related field (can be substituted by significant software development experience).
• This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Architecture Ownership and design review for regulatory surveillance systems.
• Evolve surveillance architecture to align with Titanium architecture.
• Ensure data pipelines can handle peak activity with optimal cost.
• Design for operational resilience, automation, auditing and observability.
• Conduct PoCs on third party tech and datasets for regulatory needs.
• Author ARB proposals for Regulatory technology department.
• Interface with other tech teams for optimal integrations and datasets.
• Design and develop new datasets for regulatory surveillance and ML.
• Automate data ingestion pipelines for regulatory data.
• Mentor developers on best practices and consistency across surveillance codebase.
• Support adoption of new tools and datasets by regulatory division staff.
• Provide inputs to team managers for planning and estimation.
• Participate in system performance and capacity reviews with SREs.
