Job summary

Northrop Grumman Corp. is seeking a laser systems engineer to lead integration, test, and development of high-power solid-state laser systems.

You will work on CW and pulsed lasers, fiber and slab technologies, and collaborate with optical and opto-mechanical design teams. Ideal candidates have a STEM degree with 5+ years of laser experience (or higher) and a proven ability to present briefing packages to customers, with US citizenship and ability to obtain clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 5+ years laser experience; or Master’s with 3+ years; or Ph.D. with 1+ year laser experience.
• Experience with high-power solid-state laser systems, including fiber lasers and amplifiers.
• Laser system integration background with knowledge of hardware requirements and testing.
• Ability to independently set up and perform system tests, including free-space optical beam trains and diagnostics.
• Ability to prepare and present briefing packages to both internal and external customers, communicating technical approaches and findings.
• US citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) discipline with 5+ years of laser experience; or Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of laser experience; or Ph.D. in a STEM discipline with 1+ years of laser experience
• Experience working with high-power solid-state laser systems, including fiber lasers and amplifiers
• Laser system integration background with knowledge of hardware requirements and testing
• Ability to independently set up and perform system tests, including free-space optical beam trains and diagnostics
• Ability to prepare and present briefing packages to both internal and external customers, communicating technical approaches and findings
• US citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering
• Experience in the design, integration and test of high-power (kW-class and above) laser systems, including fiber lasers and amplifiers operating at high powers, and optical alignments of free-space beam paths
• Understanding of laser-related physics, and possessing physics-based modeling capability and techniques
• Familiarity with suppliers of optics, coatings and fiber-related components.
• Optical design capability using Code V or Zemax design tools
• Active U.S. Government security clearance at the Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years, or active U.S. Government SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years

Primary Level Salary Range

Primary Level Salary Range: $125,300.00 - $187,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

• Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
• Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
• Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
