Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal/Engineer Mechanical (Level 2 or 3) to join our Facilities Mechanical Engineering team in Promontory, Utah. This on-site role supports mechanical design, P&ID development and major equipment selection for industrial plant systems.

The candidate will manage projects, coordinate procurements, and develop calculations and specifications while ensuring compliance with codes and standards. Clearances may be required and relocation is not offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 2+ years of Facilities Engineering related experience (Level 2) or 5+ years (Level 3).
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
• Industrial mechanical design and process equipment experience.
• AutoCAD drafting ability.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering design to support the Facilities Mechanical Engineering Department.
• Manage projects and coordinate procurements and installation to meet cost and schedule requirements.
• Design P&IDs for chemical plant systems including boiler feed, condensate, water treatment and hydraulics.
• Prepare calculations and specifications for major plant equipment (heat exchangers, boilers, pumps, etc.).
• Review drawings for manufacturability and functionality.
• Troubleshoot industrial mechanical equipment in the field with Maintenance.

Northrop Grumman Space Sector is currently recruiting for a Principal/Engineer Mechanical (Level 2 or 3) position (also known as a Facilities Mechanical Engineer) located in Promontory, Utah.
This position is fully on-site. Relocation assistance is not available.

Job Description

• Provide engineering design as needed to support the Facilities Mechanical Engineering Department.
• Manage projects and coordinate all procurements and installation to meet the program cost and schedule requirements for capital upgrades.
• Design mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for chemical plant systems including boiler feed and condensate, water treatment, hydraulics, heat transfer systems, conveying systems, and air and gas systems.
• Prepare design calculations and specifications for major plant related equipment including, but not limited to heat exchangers, industrial chillers, cooling towers, boilers, condensers, pumps, piping, etc.
• Prepare mechanical engineering designs, including layout, design sketches, and conceptual design.
• Check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
• Develop schedules, work assignments and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
• Coordinate with other engineers and craftsman assigned to the project or a task, and reviews work progress and results
• Providing detailed cost estimates for project design and implementation
• Preparing specifications for the procurement of pumps, heat exchangers, valves, compressors, tanks, cranes, and other miscellaneous of plant equipment.
• Review engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability and functionality.
• Troubleshoot industrial mechanical equipment. Resolve equipment problems in the field through technical assistance with Maintenance Craftsmen.

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
