Job summary

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer in Sunnyvale, CA to oversee capital machinery, optimize tooling, and improve throughput. You will work on high-value gearing, steam turbine assemblies, and related machined components, ensuring efficient layouts and production readiness.

The role requires hands-on machining experience, strong drawing reading skills, and U.S. citizenship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant work experience; or a Master's with 3+ years.
• Experience in manufacturing as a process owner (process, equipment, documentation, training).
• Hands-on machining and troubleshooting in a machine shop environment.
• Experience with machine tool equipment and control systems (large CNC mills, lathes, hobbers, grinders).
• Experience in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• US citizenship required.

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer based out of Sunnyvale, CA.

You will support the manufacturing and testing of marine propulsion and power generation systems, working on various manufacturing processes for high-value gearing and steam turbine assemblies, machined components, and welded fabrications. This position will focus on optimizing the capability of manufacturing tools and machinery.

What You'll get to Do:

• Oversee operation of capital machinery, specializing in machine tool systems (milling, boring, turning, hobbing, grinding).

• Optimize performance of equipment by implementing new capability (development of solutions to increase throughput and reduce cycle times using new tooling components/systems; programming techniques, control systems upgrades).

• Troubleshoot machine failures to minimize downtime, while collaborating with machine maintenance and equipment OEMs.

• Supports new capital procurement and the designs andarrangements of machines within plant facilities to ensure the most efficient and productive layout.

• Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.

Basic Qualifications for the Principal Manufacturing Engineer:

• Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience; OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.

• Experience working in a manufacturing environment as a process owner (process, equipment, documentation, special training).

• Hands-on experience in machining and troubleshooting of machines or being in a machine shop environment.

• Experience with machine tool equipment and control systems(large CNC mills, lathes, hobbers, and grinders).

• Experience in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.

• US citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications for the Principal Manufacturing Engineer:

• Experience in machine tool design and maintenance.

• Experience in programming CNC lathes, mills, and/or grinders.

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
