Job summary

Docker is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to shape the long-term direction of Docker Hardened Images. You will own the architecture, define multi-quarter roadmaps, and drive security-focused container hardening across teams and upstream communities.

You will mentor engineers, represent Docker in escalations, and align stakeholders on technical trade-offs between security, velocity, and cost, while advancing standards in SBOM, Sigstore, and SLSA across the supply chain.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience building production-grade distributed systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field.
• Ability to set multi-quarter roadmaps and align stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture for DHI as a platform, covering image/Helm authored, secured, distributed, evolved.
• Define and drive multi-quarter technical roadmaps for container hardening.
• Identify systemic patterns from customer, operational, and upstream signals.
• Build alignment across teams and executives on security vs. velocity vs. cost.
• Represent Docker as a trusted technical voice in escalations and upstream OSS communities.
• Set conventions and standards at scale across image definitions, Helm adaptation, hardening, and supply chain tooling (Sigstore, SBOM, SLSA).
• Drive the hardest and most ambiguous packaging problems.
• Shape integration test infrastructure and developer tooling strategy.
• Mentor staff and senior engineers.
• Take part in the paid on-call rotation.
