Job summary

Homebase is seeking a Principal Engineer, Core Product, to lead technical strategy across Payroll, Scheduling, Time Tracking, and HRM for 100K+ SMBs. You’ll partner with product, data, design, and engineering leadership to shape architecture and delivery over the next 18+ months.

This role demands systems thinking, fast shipping, and mentoring of senior engineers, with a focus on domain-driven design, API design, SOA, and AI-enabled productivity.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience
• Strong background in Ruby on Rails
• Track record of defining and executing technical strategy across multiple domains
• Mentoring engineers and guiding architectural change
• Deep expertise in domain-driven design, API design, SOA and event-driven architectures

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: drive Homebase's technical vision and architecture across Core Product domains
• API Strategy: deliver platform enabling internal velocity and external integrations
• Service Architecture: decompose core product systems into well-bounded services
• Technical Problem Solving: resolve cross-cutting challenges before they impact customers
• Engineering Excellence: foster engineering culture and standard patterns
• Cross-Functional Partnership: align with Product, Data, Design and Engineering leadership
