Job summary

Mastercard is seeking a Principal Engineer (Architecture) with deep expertise in Java and Spring to lead architecture and design for MDES services. You will define regional distribution, drive engineering practices, and mentor an engineering team to deliver scalable, secure payment applications.

The role requires hands-on development, code reviews, and collaboration with product management to craft high-level designs and proof-of-concepts for new use cases.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading at least one scrum team, refining features, guiding and mentoring team members.
  • Hands-on development with core Java, Spring Boot, Spring MVC/IOC/AOP/Security and SQL/RDBMS; experience with NoSQL and web services.
  • Developing microservice architectures and deploying to public cloud (AWS, Google, Azure).
  • Proficient in design documentation, code reviews, and version control (Git); familiar with CI/CD tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead platform/solution architecture to meet non-functional requirements.
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering to design high level architecture.
  • Develop critical components and proof-of-concepts for new ideas.
  • Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers; ensure code quality.
  • Create/design documentation and manage SCM operations (branching, merging).
  • Research new technologies and evaluate their applicability to existing solutions.
  • Adhere to organizational processes and protect IP.

Overview

The MDES team is looking for a Technical Architect (Principal, Software Development Engineer) who can lead Architecture and Design of MDES Services and define regional distribution / localization design for MDES. The ideal candidate is the one who is passionate about leading software development, driving engineering practices & technically mentoring team members for a highly scalable, highly available enterprise grade payment application.

Role
  • Lead platform / solution architecture design addressing all non-functional requirements
  • Work closely with Product Management and Engineering Team to come up high level design
  • Develop critical components whenever required and create proof of concepts for new/unknown use cases/ideas
  • Conduct code reviews, is responsible for overall code quality, Coach and mentor less experienced team members
  • Write and review Design Documentation whenever required
  • Do SCM Operations – branching, merging, tagging, conflict resolution
  • Study upcoming technologies and identify how they can be used to improve existing solution
  • Comply with organizations processes. Policies and protects organization’s Intellectual property. Also, participate in organization level process improvement and knowledge sharing
All About You
Essential knowledge, skills & attributes
  • Experience of technically leading at least one scrum team in terms of assisting Product Manager in refining the features and stories, doing low level design, doing code review, troubleshooting team’s issues, guiding & mentoring team members
  • Hands on experience and expert on working with core Java, Spring Boot, Spring (MVC, IOC, AOP, Security), SQL, RDBMS (Oracle and PostGRES), NoSQL (Cassandra), Web-services (JSON and SOAP), Kafka, Zookeeper
  • Hands on experience of developing microservice application & deploying them on any one of the public cloud like Google, AWS, Azure
  • Hands on experience of using Intellij/Eclipse/My Eclipse IDE, UML tools (MS Visio, PlantUML)
  • Hands on experience of writing Junit test cases, working with Maven/Ant/Gradle, GIT
  • Experience of working with Agile methodologies.
  • Personal attributes are strong logical and Analytical Skills, design skills, should be able to articulate and present his/her thoughts very clearly and precisely in English (written and verbal)
  • Knowledge of Design Patterns
  • Knowledge of Security concepts (E.g. authentication, authorization, confidentiality etc.) and protocols, their usage in enterprise application
Additional/Desirable capabilities
  • Experience of working in Payments application Domain
  • Hands on experience of working with tools like Mockito, JBehave, Jenkins, Bamboo, Confluence, Rally

Compensation

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
