Job summary

Storm3 is hiring a Principal Engineer to build a patient-centered AI layer that supports exam rooms today, shaping the technical foundations of a privacy-forward healthcare product. You will report to the CTO and work closely with clinicians to ensure reliability and trust.

You’ll tackle offline-first architectures, real-time transcription, private AI compute, and graph-based systems, delivering production software with a four-person team capacity.

We’re hiring a Principal Engineer to help create a product patients can rely on during critical moments and shape the next generation of consumer healthcare.

The Impact of This Role

Technology only delivers value if it works when people need it. That means capturing a recording in a hospital basement without reception, remaining dependable when a caregiver needs support, and keeping patient information secure.

You’ll take responsibility for the technical foundations supporting everything we build. Reporting directly to our CTO, you’ll work closely with the founding team.

What You’ll Build

• Shape our technical direction. Own major architectural decisions across the ecosystem, including choices that can create lasting problems if made incorrectly early on. You’ll draw on previous experience to make those calls confidently and remain accountable for the outcomes.
• Tackle problems without established answers. Work on offline‑first healthcare, real‑time clinical audio transcription, private AI compute, and graph‑based systems throughout the architecture. These systems must function in challenging environments where standard assumptions often fail. You’ll establish approaches where no existing playbook applies.
• Design our development approach. AI isn’t simply part of the product. It’s central to how we create it. You’ll develop workflows, tooling, and automation intended to give a four‑person team the operating capacity of forty. Building that capability is as important as delivering production software.
• Build and deliver alongside us. Collaborate directly with co‑founders and clinicians across the full stack, spanning API design, mobile recording experiences, and patient‑and‑caregiver‑facing interfaces. You’ll embrace the responsibility that comes with building products people depend on.

• Experience building software people rely on. You’ve delivered systems in unpredictable, complex environments and developed clear perspectives on failure modes, schema design, scalability, and the weaknesses that emerge over time. You recognize that healthcare data demands more than compliance alone. It also requires engineering decisions that establish and preserve patient trust.
• Judgment that extends beyond individual technologies. We’re interested in your approach to solving problems rather than the frameworks you know by heart. Our stack uses Hono, React Native/Expo, React, and PostgreSQL, with TypeScript throughout. You can learn the specifics. What matters is your ability to choose between several credible options when time is limited and the tradeoffs have real consequences.
• An established AI‑assisted development practice. LLMs and agentic tools already form part of your daily work, rather than occasional experiments. You understand where they add value and where they introduce friction. You’re motivated to help a small team turn AI‑assisted development into a practical advantage rather than a talking point.
• A habit of making technical knowledge reusable. You document decisions, establish clear patterns, and help others navigate complex tradeoffs. Your work makes subsequent decisions easier to understand and act on. You provide the same clarity and guidance that you’ve valued from engineers you’ve worked alongside.
