Job summary

Stratus® is a leading integrated design firm seeking a Principal Engineer (PE) to provide senior technical leadership on major projects across civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines. You will guide design, analysis, and construction, serving as the firm’s subject matter expert.

Responsibilities include leading a multidisciplinary MEP team, preparing drawings and reports, mentoring junior engineers, overseeing construction administration, and supporting client meetings and proposals to win

Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is required.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 10–15 years of experience in engineering design and project management.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills for guiding junior engineers and project teams.
  • Ability to lead large-scale engineering projects and communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of complex engineering projects, providing expert technical guidance to project teams.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for a multidisciplinary team of MEP engineers.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, calculations, and technical reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and client expectations.
  • Serve as the primary technical expert on projects, resolving complex design challenges and ensuring innovative, sound engineering solutions.
  • Mentor and lead junior engineers to ensure technical excellence across the team.
  • Conduct quality control reviews at key milestones to ensure accuracy and adherence to goals.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and consultants to integrate engineering systems into designs.
  • Oversee construction administration, including reviews of submittals and site visits.
  • Participate in client meetings and proposals to support project success.
  • Stay current with industry advancements and incorporate new solutions into designs.

The Role

The Principal Engineer (PE) is responsible for providing senior-level technical leadership on engineering projects. This role focuses on leading the design, analysis, and construction of major projects, offering expert technical guidance to project teams, and serving as the firm’s subject matter expert. The Principal Engineer plays a key role in project success by ensuring that designs meet client expectations, regulatory standards, and technical requirements.

  • Stay current with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and innovative materials, incorporating new solutions into the firm’s engineering designs.
  • Provide strategic input on business development efforts, assisting with proposals and client presentations to secure new projects.
